recon from carriers

Just now I noticed that if I do a recon mission from an aircraft carrier, the area stays lit up in following turns even if the aircraft carrier moves on. I haven't noticed whether it did this from cities, although normally I am able to see far enough that it doesn't make any difference because I string ships around my coast and such.

Is this a bug?

Yeah, I can see them move on another continent.

edit: Just discovered that the 'free recon' of the area disappears when another of your units pass that area.
