  • 100% Too Crowded

Hello, I have never played a Civ game but I have played loads of AoE and AoK games.

Eight of my cities are having civil disorders because they are "100% Too Crowded" I have no idea how to fix this. I can't find anything in the manual. Please help

    Thanks,

    Fried

Try reducing the population by building workers or settlers. Or by rush-building an improvement or unit. That should ease the local housing situation temporarily.

No. Go into the city screen and clickon the center of the city. This will reapportioned your citizens so that some will be entertainers.

Or, you can increase spending on luxuries. Or, you can build improvements or wonders that decrease unhappiness.

Or, if your government allows, you can build a military unit to quell rioters.

Or, you can nerve staple the punks...oops, wrong game.

Here's a few Ideas. They are straight out of the civilopedia. Just right click on one of the unhappy faces to get a description:

Build a temple. Changes 1 unhappy person to content
Build a coliseum. Changes 2 happy people to content.
Build a cathedral. Changes 3 happy people to content.

Raise luxuries in the domestic advisor screen. This diverts some $ away from science, but it beats civil disorder.

Change some of your civilians to entertainers. In the city screen, just click on a square that someone is working on. This stops him from working, and makes an entertainer to make more people happy.

        Trade for luxuries, like silk.

Build the Oracle, sistine chapel, J.s Bachs cathedral, hanging gardens, shakespeares theater, cure for cancer.

If you are a republic/democracy, lay off the war.

In despot, you can station more troops. I think you can also do this in monarchy/communism.

That's a quick rundown - check the civilopedia for a little more detai.

Build more city improvements and Wonders that increase happiness, like temples, colosseums, and cathedrals. Increase your luxury rate.

Work them to death in the salt mines (use forced labour in despotic governments)

              Thanks guys.

Before I got these replies I went in and put education and science at 50%. That was costing me 187 a turn from my 3000. I'm at 2k now and put it down them down to 30% each now I make 13 or so a turn. But that stopped the civil disorders. Plus I have loads of workers and wonders.

I'm playing 8 computers on easiest on a huge map I must have at least 40 cities!
