  • Can you have more than one Great Leader?

I managed to get a Great Leader (George Washington) using the Americans and I have been trying to get another. I know that there is a 1/16 chance but is it possible to have 2 Great Leaders at the same time?

    Yes.

The game currently playing as the russians have Ivan the Terrorable and Peter the Great.

Now what do you do with armies/leaders after their units become out dated?

You send them into one last glorious battle, of course.

One thing I'm having trouble understanding is what sort of battle is required for an elite unit to create a leader.

Is it any battle that an elite unit survives, or just ones where the elite unit attacks and wins a battle? (Had an elite horseman unit get assaulted by about 6+ barbarian horsemen. No leader.)

You can't get a leader from barbarians. My anecdotal experience and rumors here indicate that it may be more likely to get a leader from offensive combat, but I haven't researched it enough to say. Good thing to ask Firaxis, since it would take a long time to run numbers that were statistically significant.

I have yet to receive a great leader from an elite unit defending. course, this is just my experience. i don't see why it isn't possible. a elite unit is an elite unit, no matter if it's defensive or offensive. what really sucks is getting a great leader and the ai counters heavily and you lose him before you can use him.

I have had a leader appear from an elite spearman defending, so I know it's possible to get them that way. Unfortunately, the spearman lost the next battle and **poof** no more great leader.

Don't feel bad GreyCloak, I know what you mean. My last game (and best yet) I had quite a few leaders show up. Fighting alot does help the leaders show up. I had one leader show up when my mech infantry lived through a barrage of attacks while I was slowly wiping out the 3 remaining civs. Getting them home was another story, never did manage that, oh well, no great loss, I was pumping out armies pretty fast and just waiting for a victory condition to show up. Got the domination victory 3 turns before the cultural victory was gonna kick in

From my observations (far from statistical or scientifically accurate) I think the odds of getting a leader improve when your victory is hard fought or improbably.

In 4 full games on Regent level I am yet to see a Great Leader emerge and I have had many elite units fight a lot of battles.
