  • Golden Ages?

Playing as the Babylonians, I won combat with my Bowman unit and I don't think the Golden Age was initiated. my questions:

    1. How do you know if you are in a Golden Age?

    2. Doesn't winning combat with a civ-specific unit trigger a Golden Age?

It lasts for 20 turns, so look in the lower right of the screen. Next to what you are reaserching it should say "Golden Age".

You should also have a popup when it starts, saying you are in the golden age. Also, you must win in combat against another civ, not barbarians.

Thanks, that might be it, I was under the impression that winning against barbarians would work also.

Yes, that one caught me by surprise too. I beat some barbarians with my might Greek Hoplites, but I didn't see anything saying Golden Age. But eventually I figured out that none of my production had changed, so I must not be in a Golden Age.

It was tough to get a Golden Age as the Greeks, since the Hoplite (1-3-1) is not an attacking unit. I had a war going with the Egyptians, but they never attacked one of my Hoplites. And I wasn't about to go attacking their units with my Hoplites. Eventually what happened was he attacked one of my swordsman with a war chariot, got knocked down to 1 HP, and retreated. But he retreated to a square right next to where I had a healthy Hoplite. So I finished him off with my Hoplite and triggered my Golden Age.

One of your advisors (forget which one) tells you as soon as you win your victory. I'm playing as the Romans and my legion just kicked some Egyptian archer's butt when the advisor told me!

Never noticed it on the lower right of the screen, but a lot of the print in the game is way too small if you ask me.

You can always trigger a golden age by building a wonder that corresponds to both your civ's attribtues. I built the Great Wall as the Chinese and it triggered the golden age for me.

I have a question though, can a civ only have one golden age? I'm the french and I annhilated the English off my contient using only Musketeers but it never triggered a golden age.

But I had one previously due to some wonder (I forgot which).

Yes, you can only have one. It is triggered either through building the appropriate wonders or winning a battle with your UU, whichever comes first.
