  • Barbarian Rage

ok. I started a game as the Egyptians on emperor and was doing pretty damn well. I had put on raging barbarians, but I hadn't seen one yet. Then i get a massive barbarian uprising message. right? I had 1452 gold in my treasury! One of my cities didn't have any defenses and the barbarians picked it! They ransacked around 24 times until all i had was 10,000 people and 188 gold! I was so pissed off i sent 10 archers out and took down 5 barbarian camps and about 10 barbarians! Those bastards deserved it! HAHAHAHA

Which is why it's always good to defend ALL of your cities

Is there an option where your treasury is not kept in the smallest most recently founded city at the furthest edge of your empire?

That uprising happens whenever the second civ to do so reaches the next age. Barbarian camps only appear in the fog of war. If you have no fog of war near you (you have units or cities viewing all terrain around(, then no camps. It pays to have some units near the fog of war anyway ready to take on any barbarians you find. They give you troops training without having a war, and each camp you kill gives you 25 gold, too.

Yup, that is the way to deal with raging barbs. Do not have any fog of war near any of your cities.

What is the relationship between the poll and thread?

              Q. If you can only get around ~ 10 gold max from ever taking a city, why do barbarians get huge amounts for not taking the city, and can do it several times in a row?

                  Pickpocketed of over 1200 gold.

Destoyed 5 barb camps (got 125 gold).

                  And some promotions.

                  Revenge... priceless.

Don't forget that undefended cities + raging barbs + uprising + a large treasury means lots of lost gold. But take that last variable out of the equation, and the damage is reduced considerably. If you are saving gold for unit upgrades, upgrade everything you can immediately, even if the timing is a little off. If you are saving gold for tech purchases, go on a buying spree immediately. When I see danger from an uprising, one of the first things I do is try to spend some of that gold before the barbs run off with it.

Yep, spend it... upgrades, rushes, embassies, buying tech, gifts, loans (?? haven't done that in a while ??)... I don;t mind getting nailed by the barb hordes so much, as long as I can spend all my gold first.

(For some reason, I need to make sure my fiance never sees the above statement)
