Build Strategies Beyond Monarch No Barbs

I've been playing build strategies all the way up to monarch quite successfully so I thought go on lets give it a go on Emperor without Barbs... Since the AI think that trade in Techs is quite beyond what is acceptable and the fact that they get bonuses on tech discoveries, you seem to have no chance of 1) discovering something before anyone else and 2) therefore building wonders before anyone else. War seems the only option

It gets better if you survive to the industrial age.

At first you should have your starting techs to trade as all civs will not dup yours and will not have contact with all the others.
You would need to work on a tech that is less likely to be researched to have one to trade.
