  • Help! They Hate Me!

Could sombody please tell me EXACTLY EVERYTHING that makes a civ go angry and which of these can transfer through the civ you were bad to to its friends!
Cuz in my current game only 2 or 3 are actualy polite towards me! The rest are angry, (France might be furieus at me!). I've also uploaded that saved game file!

The Easert world (Inclued the romans on the far west) have only just descovered the pritty primitive Westerners! I think the Greeks or the French might of stumbled across one of the Ilses of America! And i have no idea how these guys are angry at me! WHAT DID I DO!?

    1. The AI can stay angry at you for a very, very long time.

    2. The AI gets pissed off if you're doing better than them.

    3. AI country X could be on friendly terms with AI country Y, so going to war with Y will piss off X even though there's no alliance or mpp.

    4. The Foreign Advisor comes up with wierd things like "France betrayed our friends the Greeks", even though you just wiped out the Greeks. Presumably, the AI gets dumb messages like these as well and, presumably, they listen to them.

    5. They get really, really pissed if you stunt the growth of their empire by surrounding them with your cities so they can't expand. They really, really hate that.

I had a quick look at your savegame, the polite AI civs all have active or potential luxury trades with you, the annoyed ones either dont have the potential trade (although they cant give luxurys they can pay with money - trade and cheer 'em up) or cant afford your goods. France is furious because its weak and pathetic (lol), ive noticed tiny AI civs always get mad at you

If you're the human and winning the AI civs will gang up on you. You will be blamed for things you never did. The AI will never forget remembering something you allegedly did 4,000 years ago. It is nonsense. But that's the AI for you.

It seems to me that a number of countries "hate" the US, often for things we allegedly, but never, did. It is nonsense. But that's RL for you.

Only to stop genocidal maniacs and in self defense.

to stop genocidal maniacs sure, but, self defense? please. who've we got to be afraid of? everything we do is, and obviously is, done to maintain our position of supremacy. just like any other nation before us and all that will come later. we stand for something that i think is genuinely good, but still, our wars are to maintain our position. like korea and vietnam were going to invade us or something? gimme a break......i think americans need to admit, like i have done, that we arent the end all be all of civilization, were just people like everyone else. doing what everyone else does, trying to be top dog.

Threats, and therefore self defense, come in differant forms. Countering the former Soviet nuclear threat and blowing up terrorists in Afghanistan are very differant but are both forms of defense, just as a pre emptive strike on Iraq will be...

Does declaring war and attacking in the same turn, not make civs angry, or does it do the same as suprise attacking? I think it should do cuz its exactly the same cept supprise attacking is automatic!

'Blamed for things you never did'? Can you give an example, or do you just mean they blame you for things you don't think you should be blamed for?

                              1. WW II

                              2. Hazie, I'm not 100% sure how the mechanism for going to war works. I think if you declare, but let the enemy attack on your own territory, results in a happiness boost. I'm not sure what happens in the many other permutations, and would appreciate the input of anyone who has a clue. For instance, tonight, Japan landed 6 Cavs on my continent, next to one of my cities. I 'declared' war by canceling the peace treaty, and killed their troops, being the first to attack, and on my own territory. Was that the right methodogy? I have no idea.
