  • Just built Thebes3

Is there a standard number of default names for each civ? I noticed that I built Thebes, New Thebes, Thebes2 and now Thebes3. I am curious how many cities I have, it is very tedious to count them, besides I have absorbed about a third of the four bording civs, also.

Question is, if you find a Tokyo3, do you need an AT Field to attack it?

The editor shows 29 city names for the Egyptians, it's a different number for each civ. So you should be at your 88th city now, plus however many you've aquired from the other civs.

        Tim,

        Handy shortcut:

Select a unit, and press ctrl-shift-g

You'll get a dialogue box with all your cities (makes it easy to count).

The interface for this feature is a devolution from SMAC's. Like I know where city 50 out of 100 is, I need to see it on at least the world map.

There's a mod that gives more city names available here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=35378 With this mod, all civs have at least 50 default city names.

I have found that the city names from this mod can be copied and pasted into another mod file easily. Open this mod up, select all the city names for each civ in turn, use CTRL-C to copy the city names for all civs to the clipboard, paste them into a text file, then open your mod and paste them from the text file into your mod. It only takes a few minutes, and your mod now has a lot more city names.
None, Sedentary, Roving, Restless, Raging ... damn, is that all? Where's the "massive waves of barbarians that can wipe out your civilisation" setting?

              Thanks! This info helps alot.

AESON - 88 cities well with what I absorbed I must have over 120+ cities now. I have picked up about 10 from each of my 4 neighbors.

I should be getting a Cultural victory soon. This will only be my second win! The previous 20+ games the AI kicked my behind. But, I think I am learning. These forums help alot!

Only Warlord, I know I'm a wimp, but if I win this I will move up another step.

The corrupt isn't bad, over most of my area. I am playing Democratic, have all the Wonders thru industrial age and have WLTK days in all but a couple of cities.

I can't believe you've sat there playing this game to do that. How long has this taken?

Not too long in Civ terms, maybe 10-15 hours playing time.

That is one of the reasons I love this game, mega-bang-for-the-$$$.

Wow man - 120+ cities, all wonders... I assume you're completely in the lead. Get your butt up to regent!

When I was playing my first games, it was quite hard. I started on warlord, but soon saw a post here (it might have been by theseus) to the effect that one should move up to regent as soon as possible, for fear of picking up bad habits. So I moved up before I even had a proper handle on the game, and it was definitely a good move. Playing on a completely even playing field is how to really learn the strategies play well and have fun with this game.

I'm starting to be able to handle regent (had 1 or 2 games with 8-9 wonders, though never all...), so it may be time to join the big leagues and start playing with a handicap... monarch here I come!

On topic, btw, are you razing/re-settling? Just keep enemy cities, and use their names. Otherwise just rename them manually, make something up. When you're that far ahead the game can get a bit boring, this is a way to keep your brain awake.

I won the game with a cultural victory. *yeah* actually, scorewise was only 50 pts between me and next 2 AI players, but my culture was 5-6X next closest. My final score was only about 2800.

I have been just leaving the city names alone.

My plan was to move up one level per win, so now going up to 3rd level.

Well, that game was on second level of difficulty, huge & pangea. I got a really good starting location in the middle of the huge continent in a river square with a grape, gold & 2 wheat in city area. I then just kept building settlers and moving them out 3 spaces in all directions & building another city. Once I had about 6 cities going, picked best production cities and started pyramid. Always built temple as first build after a defender then alternated settler with a culture improvement. Was very lucky on inital placement that is a big factor in the game.
