  • Upgrading units to Leaders

Okay, quick question for all of you CIV III gurus.

Has anyone figured out the formula/computation/count of the number of battles that you must fight before one of your elite units is transformed into a Leader? I'm sure it is based off the particular level that you're playing at, how decisive the battle was, etc.

For example, I tracked one of my units in battle and I'm pretty sure that I've won at least 3-5 battles with this particular infantry unit and I still can't seem to get a "Leader" out of it.

    Can someone help me?

    Thanks

    "Fergi"

Actually, it is very simple: You have a base 1 in 16 chance, period.

This flat percentage chance increases to another higher, flat % chance if you are militaristic.

It also increases to another higher, flat % change if you have the heroic epic.

Militaristic and Heroic Epic are roughly equivalent.

You have the best chance if you are Militaristic and have the Heroic Epic.

I believe it goes to 1 in 12 if EPIC or military.

But don't have to have gotten a leader to build the heroic epic???

Yes your army must have won a battle before you can make the EPIC. This requires at least one leader. This what I tend to use my first leader for, unless an urgent wonder is hanging in the balance. I am not saying this is the best use for the leader, in fact you might be able to make a case that EPIC is not that useful.

            depends

It all depends on your strategy for the game. If you are going to be a warmonger, then it is worth it. If you are going to continue as a peaceful builder, then don't bother.
