Just a couple of things I have noticed:
1) The computer always seems to ask for your territory map right before it attacks you - so don't trade this if you can help it (get his one instead). If you must, remove it from his side and ask what he wants for yours, but don't ever trade this lightly.
2) ...and always get the comp to tell you what he will trade for any item in question - usually you'll get more for what you offer.
3) Troops moving into your borders constantly mean you're about to have a war so get reinforcements there quick.
4) Anybody know how to break a trade embargo against you?
