How and when do the AIs cheat?

I was just wondering , when and how the AIs cheat.

People have been saying that the ai gets production cheats like it did in civ2, at least it higher difficulty levels.

Some also suggest that they have special combat advantages but this 'officially' not the case. I just got the game though and am playing my first game on chieftan, and I know that the ai has a disadvantage in combat on that level, as its units are conscripts by default when made, unless there is a barracks.
