So much for my pact.
The CSA moves its 1st Army in defensive positions near the US lines. President Wade Hampton has offered his sincere regret for the loss of Roosevelt, and demands to know why parts of the country have been invaded. He also has offered any help possible in finding the ful being who shot Roosevelt.
In response to the new infomation regarding harassment of the blacks by the Freedom Party, a new law has been passed allowing and military to "control" any gathering that gets out of hand.
Diplomats have been sent to the other nations in the world to ask for assitance in the event of an invasion by the US.
Now do I know the wealth of my nation, the size of my army, reasources, etc etc? or do I just ake it up?
Your army is medium-small, your navy small, and you have no airforce. A treaty with the US forbids you from expanding beyond that. Your economy is suffering from rampant inflation, but don't worry, people who want to help you are gainign popularity in the US .
In a brawl between the Freedom Party and military police, 42 are killed, including 13 police. Jake Featherston has announced that the Freedom Party will stop having fights like these and instead focus on holding massive rallies in major cities.
The US and her ally Germany (no one is GErmany but they're close friends with the US so they'd probably agree) demand the Britain limit military buildup, especially navally. We will go back to war and seize the rest of your colonies if you refuse (ooc: this threat might be idle, we'll just have to see...)
Disgusted with COngress, President WIlson has resigned, just days before the House of Representatives planned to elect a new speaker. The new Democratic ex-Speaker President Thomas Marshall was quickly sworn in. Troops have been moved out of the CSA and back into the US.
In response to the coalition between the REpublicans and Socialist, a group of conservative Republicans have split aay, forming the Moderate Party.
Mid-term election results are in!
US: House: A decisive Coalition victory!
Republicans: 37%
Socialists: 29%
Democrats: 24%
Moderates: 10%
New Speaker: William Taft (Republican)
Senate: Most of the senate races were in the West, the stronghold of the Democrats. THe Democrats have made considerable gains, but the Coalition is still dominant.
Socialists: 28%
Republicans: 23%
Democrats: 37%
Moderates: 12%
New President Pro Tempore: Eugene Debs (Socialist)
CSA: House: The Freedom Party is gaining but the Whigs are still slightly stronger
Whigs: 45%
Freedom Party: 38%
Radical Liberals: 17%
Senate: The Radical Liberals have made gains especially from Western states
Whigs: 56%
Radical Liberals: 26%
Freedom Party: 18%
OOC: Before I do anything, I'd like to note that I haven't read American Empire, so could someone briefly fill me in on Germany's relations with other countries?
*British Shipyards from Belfast to Bilbao to Brisbane pump out warships*
*Parliament refuses to institute any draft, but Army recruiting efforts are stepped up*
*A promising young Colonel in the army is promoted to General. This might be the best move in decades. He is a great advocate of air power and modern tactics*
The US sends inspectors to Britain to monitor military buildup...
US Presidential race:
After a long debate at the Coalition Convention, both Republicans and Socialists have announced they are getting behind William Taft (R) for president and EUgene Debs (S) for VP.
The Democrats have been running a campaign calling the Coalition "radical" and saying that they would "let the CSA become dominant again." However, they lack a good candidate. President Marshall is not very interested in running again, preferring a position in Congress. THey finally chose George Custer, a war hero and general who led the forces on the Canadian front. His runnign mate is Newton Baker, the current Secretary of War.
THe Moderates have been labeling the Coalition as radical and Custer as overzealously militaristic and a right-winger. THeir candidate is Warren Harding, and his running mate is Calvin Coolidge.
The Moderates, though lacking wide membership, probably have the most appealing candidate. However, this will probably be a very close election, and the Coalitions' entrenchment in the House could be the decisive factor, for if no one gets a majority the house will decide the president.
Due to 1 defection from the Socialists and 1 from teh Republicans to the Moderates, the coalition has lost the Senate!

Yes, the US somehow annexed Ireland several years ago [OOC: imagine that! haha] but your own current maps give the North-Eastern part to England. Dont you remember the compromise of ''69?
To Brazil: Requests a military pact or a Non agression pact.
To USA: When does this arms limit treaty end?
The CSA Army Engineers begin a massive fortifcation of the USA/CSA border. The line is made up of bunkers with two 75mm arty pieces and 8 7.62mm MGs. Each of these bunkers are spaced 5 miles apart. In support of the line is two Motor Inf Divisions(2000+-500 troops) and an Artillery Division. Hopefully done in 5 RT days.
The Sec. of the Navy has shown intest in purchasing some ships from the British.
Naval scienists have improved on their lastest invention. The torpedo now can be denated by magnetic force instead of contact. The CSA is willing to give this info to the British if they sell some ships.

two things:
can u say, MAGINOT?
also, that is a HUGE wall. i doubt that even the Modern USA could shoulder the funds for something of that size, magnitude and expense.
The CSA is not the French(hehe French), and if you thi about it the border is about 3000 miles long thats 600 bunkers spaced 5 miles. Concrete doesnt cost that much, even if they are made out of concrete, they might be rifle pits. So maybe ten days on each bunker, to finish the line it would take about 16 years to do. The French who had even worse money problems than CSA took about 25 years to build a line half the size of that. So maybe I didn't totally justify it, but so what.

jdd: I don't know what you're talking about. All of Ireland is American as a result of the Great War.
THere is no end to the treaty, but it will probably end up being canceled if the Coaltion takes full control in the US.
President Marshall is increasingly worried about the CSA troop buildup. He order half of the army in Canada to go south and guard the border with the CSA. He also reminds the CSA that they are not allowed to have any submersibles, nor any planes, nor any more than 50 armored and armed vehicles (ie tanks, other similar things). Violation of the treaty will result in invasion and replacement of the current government by a more obedient one.
Election results are in!
US:
President:
Harding (M): 37% (electoral), 34% (popular)
Taft (C): 34% (electoral), 39% (popular)
Custer (D): 29% (electoral), 24% (popular)
Because no one has a majority of the electoral vote, teh House elects the president and the Senate elects the VP! Taft wins by a slim margin over Custer in the House and is the new president. In the SEnate, the Democrats and Moderates agree to get behind Harding for VP to stop the Coalition from winning depite their lack of a majority.
In sum:
President: William Taft (R, C)
VP: Warren Harding (M)
House: THe Socialists gain but the Republicans lose. THe Coalition is still in control
Socialists: 32%
Republicans: 29%
Democrats: 21%
Moderates: 18%
New Speaker: Upton Sinclair (Socialist)
Senate: Moderates gain. The Democrats and Moderates both support a Moderate President Pro Temp.
Moderates: 29%
Republicans: 25%
Socialists: 24%
Democrats: 22%
New President Pro Tempore: James Sherman (Moderate)
CSA: House: The Whigs suffer heavy losses, the Rad Libs gain a lot, the Freedom Party loses a little bit.
Radical Liberals: 39%
Freedom Party: 37%
Whigs: 24%
Senate: The Freedom Party gains, butthe WHigs are still in control.
Whigs: 49%
Freedom Party: 27%
Radical Liberals: 24%
US President Taft has reassured the CSA that we have no intentions of attacking them. He warns them that if they seem to be planning to attack us though, we will invade. However, there is no reason to rigorously enforce the treaty.
Taft attempts to cancel the treaty with the CSA, but the Senate blocks him.
Taft now has three bodyguards always with him, as the Coalition fears that he may be assassinated so that the Moderates can gain the presidency.
In the CSA, through peaceful rallies, the Freedom Party is growing. THe continuing dismal state of the CSA economy has fueled their popularity. Teh Radical Liberals have also gained from the falling popularity of the WHigs.
