Seeing how great the last couple of chapters were, I somehow have a hard time believing that statement. I'm thinking you have an exciting final battle scene between the best-friends-turned-enemies coming up.
Wacky prediction* of the day
Jacques and Jean will fight. Jean will wound his former friend lethally. As Jacques collapses to the ground, emotions and memories will take control over Jean, and he will kneel before his dying friend, and weep. He will realise that the evil germans are not the people he should hang out with, even though he is their commander. Just as Jacques breathes his last, Christophe will come out of nowhere and shoot Jean in the head. He will then perish, fighting the Germans like a lion, and killing six-seven of them at least, before a dozen bullets from the muskets pierce his chest.
Okay, I'll have a go to. The germans under Jean's command turn out to actually be re-uniformed french soldiers who open fire on the gang of krauts chasing Jacques. After a brief slaughter, a few germans make it back to their commander who is not overjoyed at the news of what happened. Actually, it enrages him to the pinnacle of raw fury. Lusting for revenge, he unveils the german scientists' latest invention earlier than planned: the musket gatling gun!!! The 6-barrelled gun is fed by a conveyer belt of musket barrels which are loaded by over a thousand barrel loaders - civilians doing their part in the war. The conveyor belt and gun are powered by a row of people peddling on wheeless bikes. The deadly gun spits out 6000 musketballs a minute which turns the brave lot of frenchies into soup (as long as it doesn't jam).
Here is an interesting scenario to check out. The Vietnam war is cool.
