  • This Week's Story Contest (Dec. 3-9)

Lots of great stories this week. It was difficult to judge.
PLease note that if you want to be included in the December 10-16 contest (and all others after) you must send me a link to your story at suro@korea.com. I will pass the links on to the other judges. I changed the submission method to make things simpler and easier for the judges.
Thanks a lot for understanding and thanks a million to all the people who partipate in this contest by writing or voting.

    Doh!

    Mark,

Can you fix the link I messed up in the poll? One square bracket is facing the wrong direction. Thanks and sorry everyone.

And my story, The Glory of Egypt, seems to have fallen into the void of December 2 - between poll dates.

Or did it just not make the final cut? (which is fine by me - just means I have to write better next time!)

Sorry about the dates. The dates on the last contest are wrong. It should be Nov. 26th to Dec. 2nd. I remember reading your story and having it in the list of stories to be judges. Your story was good but there were at least five others that we thought were better. That's subjective, of course. In any case, keep writing! Practise makes perfect.

          oooooo

          A close one this week.

I liked all of them, however I am torn between Volocyrix, Ike, and Zardof.

I ultimately selected ike's story. HOwever,I could have easily selected the other 2. I hope you guys aren't offended. Ike just edged you guys out.

Next time, don't write so damn good...it makes the voting process easier

There were definately a lot of good stories this week, but all the stories I have read so far have been interesting to read, keep it up everybody!

              Humbled by it all.

Reading these stories really adds a touch of RPG to Civ3 for me. This forum is a "safe haven" from all the fireworks occuring in the General discussions area. These stories convince me there are other people out there that love this game as much as I do.......Z

I agree, Z. That was the reason yin26 dropped out at being one of the judges. He couldn't stomach civers celebrating what was right with the game, as proved in many of the fine stories here.

when I play a game, it is more to me that just a bunch of pixels and mathmatical calculations. WHen I role play, i feel for my character. When I played civ 2, i used to imagine how i treated the people that I conquered, or how individuals fared in the grand scheme of things. I never thought about writing these thoughts, until lately.

I think that some people lack imagination, and cannot enjoy this game because their tank lost to a spearman, or turns take too long, or whatever. Have fun with it! Use your imagination!

It seems that people in this forum do just that. When I play now, I see so much more than swordsman and horsemen...I see william wallace like figures covered with blood after the battle. I see terrified young soldiers, cowering in the corner and costing me a sure victory! I see my spies conspiring to invade my neighbor. I see riders coming to my palace to inform me that I have just been attacked by those GD germans (Again, for the third straight game!!!! I am going to play them next time)

Well, I am through rambling. This is a game, and a great one at that. Not because Firaxis promised all of these features, or because of graphics/ resources, or whatever...but because it inspires my imagination, and i have FUN everytime I play.

Just so you know, I got a new computer 3 days after I got this game. I had about 20 games on my old one. ON my new one, this is the ONLY game installed on it. (Plus a word processor )

I agree that this forum is a haven. Except for the strategy forum this is the only one really worth looking at. I've changed my Apolyton bookmark from Civ3 News to Forums: Stories. Like Grundel I see the games I play as a kind of history book. Every turn I take is a page. I can't participate in the story contest but I've started writing a story to post in this forum. It will definitely give the game a more epic feel for me.

                      Wow, great stories here!!

I agree that this place is much better than the general forum (where the loudest crying seems to get the most attention!)

Great work from all you authors, keep it up!
