  • Story of the Week Revisited

Well, after some debate and compromise in this forum here are the new guidelines for the Story of the Week Contest.

-The judges will look at all the stories posted during the week from Sunday to Sunday and each judge will choose the ten he or she likes best. I will then find the five (or so) stories that we all thought were the best and post a poll for everyone to vote on.

-Stories you want considered for the contest should be posted in a new thread. Therefore succession stories and stories tacked on to the end of posts will not be considered. It would just take too much time to sort through them.

Please post any thoughts you have on these guidelines.

Electing a panel of judges was an option, I believe. Frankly, I wanted to choose people who have good writing skills and are mature. A contest should choose judges who have some skills or experience that makes them suitable to evaluate the work of others.
Having said that, Yin has notified me that he's given up on Civ3 and probably won't be around here much anymore. I could choose a new judge but before I do that is there anyone with good writing skills that would like to volunteer? Let me know by posting in this thread.
      Thanks.

Why don't you take nominations? That would seem to best meet the valid criteria of experience/maturity you're looking for, and I think also give people a sense that they are being judged by their peers...

Well, I don't see the need for nominations and an elected panel of judges. Nominating judges is an unnecessary complication in my mind. I started this contest so I think it's fair for me to choose how the contest should be run. People said they would like to be able to vote on the best stories so I compromised by agreeing to have the judges select five stories for everyone to vote on. Now that Yin can't participate in the selection process I need another judge. Instead of choosing someone as I did the first time I opened up the position to anyone who thinks they have the skills to be a good judge. I'm compromising again.

I think selected judges who choose the stories to vote on is the perfect compromise, and will give us the best results.

There were many great stories submitted from November 12-18 (inclusive), thank you for taking the time to share your entertaining experiences with all of us. I have read through all of them and have sent Anatolia my scores. He will combine that with his scores (and hopefully from another judge) so we can present a list of the five finalists for all of you to judge.
