  • Story Contest Competition Idea

    Hi Guys,

Since Civ IV is coming out soon and we will soon have as many eager readers as we did after Civ III's release- I've been brainstorming a little something to make it easier for people to navigate the land of stories.

The concept basically goes like this-

A group of the most well-read Stories-posting frequenters [4-5 of them] (IE: Chrisius Maximus, Paddy the Scot, [possibly] Grandpa Troll) will discuss, below, each of their ten favorite tales.

Then, each Reader will agree to read all the tales on the list that have not yet been read.

After all readers have read the others' tales, then they can vote on the Ten Greatest Stories of All Time from the Civ III-Stories section...

    How about that?

Chrisius, Paddy, Troll, are you up for that?
I'll try to get a list of my fav's up later today.

    My Top Ten

    {Placeholder}

http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...threadid=90654 "The Man Who Would Be King" Jeremy 2.0

-Humorous, concise, well-written and a brilliant idea that speaks to everyone who is a civver-at-heart.

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=34482 "The Chronicles of Imhotep" Hawaii-Five-O

-While it has some blips in the second chapter where things aren't fully explained- the rest of the tale is resoundingly expertly done

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=35061 "World at War...The Iroquios threat " Grundel

-Nothing bad to say about this story... It wasn't stellar or exciting, but in its averageness, it is nevertheless compelling. The first chapter is by far the greatest.

http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...threadid=67986 "Ancient Empires - The Rise of Egypt" Kull

Kull's Masterpiece. It drags at times, but has a very unique take on the storytelling mode... a pity though that it was not finished...

    http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...threadid=38648 "Oil and ... Sponges" Jeremy 2.0

    Humorous, well-plotted, and well-executed.

        DC, sounds good indeed...

I had thought I posted here on this.

At this time I have each of these stories printed out, (re-)reading through them

I shall preface this listing by saying I will not insert, suggest or offer any of mine, for I see mine as a way of expressing some fun for me. I will then add I enjoy many stories and hasten to add it is hard to judge but for the sake of nominating my personal favorites will, indeed list them as such with a terse summary of my decision.

            First Place:http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...hreadid=109468

I enjoyed the way the characer was played out and also more importantly I enjoyed the quoted bylines from sources to confirm his action. Well done my Skilord good man! Ripper: A Glimpse into the Life of Gen. Jack Sterling was and still is my Favorite

            Second Place:http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=108435

Here we have Skilord again with Stains of Blood and Ash, life and just how precious and fleeting the hopes we put upon it.

            Excellent
            Third Place:http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...0&pagenumber=2

During a difficult time in his R/L Chrisius Maximus did and excellent job with The Fight for freedom. Nice touches with Proghanda (inside joke for psycho1..read the story you will see what I meant!!), an excellent way to depict a storylines path

            Fourth Place:http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=108470

This was a side splitting very humorous story. Take it for what it was meant to be, entertaining.Snakeskin Boots, Shogi and a Pagoda Tower by unscratchedfoot and I hope you enjoy it as many of us did as well

Fifth Place:http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=114617 Although not finished, The Book of Clem was very enjoyable and the screenies helped enjoy the storyline as well. Thanks xiaodave

            Sixth Place:

            Seventh Place:

            Eighth Place:

            Ninth Place:
