Whoa!! And you HAD to post this just AFTER I could concievably take a late lunch to go check it out. Looks like I'm leaving early tonight.

So, DvD or CD-box? Did you get the 250 page manual or a lame .pdf?

a CD box set, didn't see either a DVD version or a CD version in a DVD case.

it comes with the CD in a thin plastic covering, an infogrames special offer leaflet and......The Full steaming 250 page Manual, brimming with ancient civilisations, the rise and fall of empires, heroic leaders, evil dictators, epoc spanning stories, the great and the good, Disease, Death, famine, pesitlence, War, gypsies.....

I'll whine about the cheap CD case later

Well Game & EB in central Bristol certainly were NOT selling them this lunchtime.

The boxes were there but you could only buy the strategy guide (acutally looked quite good) - they were still waiting for tomorrow.

Hmmm am I desperate enough to try again after work ..... yeah I am

              I was that desperate

Game are still refusing to sell it, popped next door to EB and they weren't but after looking pathetic fondling the box the manager popped up and said that as long as I didn't want Harry Potter they could sell me one early. Not believing my luck I rushed over to spotty oik at till was in the process of handing over credit card when he said £34.99 which is a bit steep for a £29.99 game so I walked out.

              What was I thinking

Went back to Game and checked that they will be selling it for £34.99 too and realised I'd just screwed myself for the sake of an imaginary £5.

But the good news is if you have a late night opening EB give them a ring as I rang another local EB and they said that they too could sell it early but the price is £34.99

So I have to ask apart from the very cheap Amazon.co.uk how much are UK folks paying for Civ3

Actually I'm too depressed to care

It'll be on sale for £30 somewhere on the high street. I bet Gamestation will be selling it for that... About 16 hours till I get Civ3

I just couldn't resist and went back out and got it from a different EB for the full whack.

Wife out, kids in bed, big question now do I RTFM or just install and be damned ?

It works.....shame I couldn't get rid of the wife!

With all the posts over the last few weeks regarding problems installing etc... I will admit that I was very nervous that the game would not install or run correctly.

                    ..BUT IT WORKS PERFECTLY !!!!

The only blemish on my otherwise utopian CIV-BLISS Thursday night session was the intrusion of the wife.

I had prepped her for having Friday Night to myself ... game arrives early.... but also as the wife is expecting my company

...so I only managed to play 3-4 turns ..

                    AAARRRRHHHHH the frustration

...hohum....at least now I have tonight to look forward..and expectation is always better than the reality.

Despite having had the game for a week now I've only had three sessions on it (my weekends are taken up by my geographically-distant girlfriend visiting or being visited ).

I'm glad you guys seem to agree with my thoughts, that this game does really rock!

No disappointments. The graphics are utterly sumptuous, it's really like playing like a god over a real world.

I particularly like the way geography has been handled. No piddly little deserts next to forests next to mountains next to grasslands - the deserts are BIG, the jungles HUGE. They've really sussed the landscaping algorithm on this.

And yeah, warfare is actually a lot harder now. Although a warning about catapults - they now SUCK!
