  • Civilization III available in Finland today!

    I'm not lying!

I got my copy earlier today from Helsinki for 295 FIM. It seems to be that the game's Finnish importer made some special deal with Infogrames and several southern Finnish (the area around Helsinki) computer stores have the game in their shelves!

    I'm off to play...

Well, the fact is that the official release of Civ III
in Finland is 9.11, that means it was today.

And the second fact is that the Finnish importer
has been allowed release the game in Finland
one week before rest of Europe.

But one thing that's not true, is that
there would have only been an agreement
with retailers in the Capital region.
How the heck would you explain that
I have been the lucky owner of Civ III
for several hours now? I haven't
been to the South recently and I haven't
received any shipment from US or any
other foreign country. That's a clue...

BTW, I have talked to DanQ on the release in Finland,
so there should be a news bulletin later.

I just came home after looking for CivIII... I couldn't spot it in any stores here. Guess I'll just have to wait until Monday to see if it would have arrived then.

Xuenay, I suggest that you call them first.
Better check out first, before dashing out.

Might be a good idea. Too bad I had already signed off before you posted.

Well, it's a good thing that I didn't need to... They had the game, and I'm now the happy owner of Civilization III.

Are you pleased with the game?

BTW, I have owned the game since yesterday,
but I haven't still installed it.

I'm not sure whether or not I'm pleased with it, actually. I played one game, but retired around 1400 AD when I had about six cities, the AI had colonized nearly the entire planet, and I had fallen hopelessly behind in the tech race. I think it's going to be great as soon as they fix the AI to be less expansionistic.

I felt the same too in my first games...

My trick to avoid falling back in the tech race was to just expand like hell in the first turns (to take ANY good city places I could see) and research Writing and Literature ASAP in order to build Libraries. The best civs to perform this are probably Persia and Greece (Persia because Immortals will 0wn most opposition up to the discovery of Gunpowder)...

I can't give me first impressions yet, because first
I'm going to read the What's new in Civ III? section
                          of the handbook. Then...
