  • Pre-order -- do you think you'll be in the first wave

If you pre-ordered -- more particularly the LE (EB). Do you think you'll receive it in the first wave of products released to the retailer, or will you be stuck waiting for another batch while stores are selling it off the shelves.

Dear god, I hope so. I'd hate to have gone to the trouble of preordering only to see the retailers get first pick. May as well go to the store myself!

Oh well. PBEM SMAC should keep me busy for a while.

    I want my Civ3!
    To those who understand,
    I extend my hand.
    To the doubtful I demand,
    Take me as I am.

Pre-order people are not the first priority of the distributor, so heads up. (happened to me before...)

If i can get the LE at my local store, then i will cancel my preorder (from America) and get it here.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

That is a tad bit tasteless....

Well, if it is in the stores earlier, than I'll buy it there and sell my pre-ordered copy to my brother!

As The Templar and Anunikoba pointed out, I have also seen evidence in forums that distributors get priority. Likewise as La Russo mentioned, shipping will some times get you the game a day or so early (if you pay for express mailing), or several days to a week late, or on time. The later two I have not the demeanor to handle well (claw marks on the wall, cigarette burns on the computer keyboard, my dogs cringing in the corners of the room).

There are two EB outlets in my area. One is about two miles from where I work, the other about two miles from where I live. Because of my frequent browsing visits and routine purchases, I have a rapport with the sales people. When I am dead set on a game purchase, I pre-order months in advance and pay for the game in full when I pre-order. Doing it this way I have found that the sales people have always made sure that regardless of how many games arrive in the store on day one, they always have a copy with my name on it. EB refunds the difference if the price of the game goes down from pre-order date to release date, or honors my original price if the price of the game goes up.

I also pre-ordered the CIV III strategy guide (SG). Not only do I like reading the wonder write-ups and stuff, but in some cases I have gotten the SG weeks before a game is out. I was hoping they would have kept the SG date release date at 10/17, would've given me something to pacify myself with for the last two weeks. (Hey! No sticky pages in the SG book comments please!)

Well, I preordered my LE from Bestbuy (with Express Delivery)...but I can always "hope" to be in the first wave...
