A question to the roleplay team: I thought that a team of your nature would not trade maps (of any kind, including the one that Togas described) until you have discovered Map Making.
I strongly doubt that you've researched Map Making because it's a low priority tech. So, what's the deal here?"Close your eyes, for your eyes will only tell the truth,
And the truth isn't what you want to see,
Close your eyes, and let music set you free..."

Actually, we discussed this at length and decided that it would be in our best interest to not hide away until writing and map making. And while the "map" aspect of the minimaps is very nice, it's not really what we're after. We just want to know general locations of the other civs so we can send our explorers that direction and hopefully meet up. Which is why we're more than happy to only exchange locations as I described in the initial post.
The out-of-character stuff is going to happen when working with teams that aren't roleplaying. We're adjusting to it and trying to strike a balance between our "realism" and our need to remain active and involved in the game.

Well I dont see any harm in sharing locations if all of us agree to it, but it does eliminate the interesting aspect of the game where one civ plays a middle-man between two civ who havent found each other. If we all know where others whereabout is then we wont have that kind of advantgae/disadvantage which is also a part of the game.
Its late so i dunno if what i said above makes sense (i read it and i wonder if it does to anyone ) but basically this sounds kinda like anti-nuke treaty. As long as everyone agrees to it, its fair and can be implemented justly, but you are losing an aspect of game where you can unsuspectingly nuke someone. It doesnt feel whole. eh whatever.:-p

Calc - I understood that. And I agree.
I personally think trading mini-maps is not in keeping with the spirit and intent of the game. There are certain things that can only be done within the game - trading techs, gold, luxuries, etc,. And map trading should only be valid when the two civs have met and have map making - as per the game.
Now - sharing info - such as 'we are to the south and east', even before civs have met, may also be considered outside of the scope of the game. But, IMHO, it doesn't reveal that much info, and with seven civs on the map you can pretty well figure out that there is one to your east, or west, or whatever. And besides, it allows some team-interaction and fun at an early stage when by rights, all foreign affairs ministers should simply be lounging around.
But on the mini-map trading thing, no agreement, convention, or rule was established prior to the game. Poll anyone?Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

no poll. We (our team) have planned for there to be no restrictions on this type of trade. Therefore, we should not change/implement regulations now.Proud Member of the ISDG Apolyton Team; Member #2 in the Apolyton Yact Club.

Participation in this exchange is entirely voluntary. Some of us are trading locations, some of you are not. Those of us who do may or may not receive an early game advantage from this information. But the only way to know is to try it.
Hope everyone had a great Holiday. Looking forward to trading with you sooner or later.
