  • Culturally-linked starting positions

This is just for clarification purposese, but are we planning on having this option on or off?

The only reason I ask is because it might affect the teams' choices of Civs in relation to one another...
"The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country." -- Abraham Lincoln

"Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever, in flesh and blood, walked upon this earth." -- Albert Einstein, in regards to Mohandis Gandhi

let's keep it off, there 's no reason why it should be as far as I can see
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

I don't think we need it, I always swictch it off in SP because I like to pick the Civs I play against and don't wanna know who'll be starting next to me.

I can't see we'd gain any benefit from having it in this game.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

I think playing with it off would be best. I always turn it off in sp, too. Just adds a more intersting element of suprise into the game.

Did we even have a poll for this during the last game?

Okay, does anyone really want it on? Otherwise we can just assume that people want it off.

It would satisfy my poll appetite to say "no" by clicking on a shiny button

I almost always play with culturally-linked starting positions ON

I honestly like it better that way, as it gives more of a sense of competing immediately with your cultural "brethren" before reaching beyond them to other cultural groups... I also like to play on huge maps where each cultural group has its own continent, so that's part of it as well

I'm surprised that few other people would play with it on... I honestly enjoy it quite a bit.

HOWEVER, I agree that it serves little purpose for this multi-player PTW game where most of the civs will be human-controlled and defined by the humans (often in ways that differ from their cultural histories), so it would no longer make sense to group the civs by their culture (whereas it makes a great deal of sense in Single-Player).
