  • PBEM or MP?

Well, some people (originally) planned on doing a PBEM Demo Game, but yes, that would be slow. So some people suggested we do a simultaneous/turn based one. What do the rest of you think? Can simultaneous turns be workable?

I don't think simul or turnless would be possible

I can barely handle my civ on simul, too fast and furious. maybe it would work, but it would be dicey. which is not to say i wouldnt be open to participating

then you have to throw in the current mp issues.....

      PbEM has my vote.

: Maybe the first turns in euh normal MP, then switch to pbem (if that's possible)

D*mned, there's alot to read today. It's hard to keep up with everything , especially since there are a couple off busy bees around

And these are serious issues. Crashing is much more common than playing. So until the problems are corrected, I have to vote for PBEM.

Yes, PBEM will probably be the only usable one... right now, I have yet to get a single MP game to work.

Assuming they fix the MP enough I say turn based (with timer off of course).

Btw, I am curious, how will diplomacy be conducted? It seems like it would take at least a couple of turns, and thats if you offer something on your turn, they offer something back on theirs, and you outright accept. Any haggling makes many deals difficult to execute, especially those involving techs. In the Case of the DG, it would apply whether PBEM or interbet game, unless alll teams take their tunrs at the time (which hasn't been mentioned and is most likely impracticle).

diplomacy is handled through (various) e-mails

PBEM is probably the most stable option. Also, it's not especially great to be dependent on the Gamespy network.

Well, this poll appears to be rather definitive. Thankfully, since MP... err... is having some problems, to say the least.

Turn based. Let each team nominate a player(s). I will help them get connected to my host. If they own the game (and are not using warez) I am sure I can do it. Unless you're Trip (sorry bro, you are cursed for now).

The lag while other teams are playing would actually lend itself to the periods of chatting with team mates on seperate chat programs. Actually, I might even be able to accomodate Trip in turn based. It is a different game from simultaneous. The players would just have to be patient.

No timers. 5 or 10 turns per session. Laggards get the abuse of the masses they deserve.
