  • "Custom Difficulty?"

What is the "Custom" difficulty level in the Earth (Huge) scenario?

Once again, a friend and I tried to play 6 AI computers, and they again annihilated us unmercifly. All I can figure is the difficulty level set for the game is awfully high. I can't seem to figure out how to tell in the editor, and when we create the game the difficulty level is grayed out as "Custom."

    Any ideas?

Just go in the editor, open your scenario. Then go in the rules menu, choose edit rules. When the big window opens go in the level folder and set it to how you want. If you want to customize it even further, just read what you scroll or click, it's realy easy and user friendly.

Personnaly I dont find it very hard, maybe you just need practice.

I'd like to know- if set AI difficulty to Diety, and then edit all the rules to somthing fair, like Warlord for instance, is there any difference in the way the AI plays? Perhaps AI on high difficulty plays deeper strategy then on easier settings- or is the only differences in the bonus's and penalties alone?

The only difference in the AI dificulty level is the bonuses the AI recieves.

Yea, thanks. The user interface just doesn't seem very intuitive. The part that's truely frustrating was the map was using "Standard Rules," so the Custom Rules->General settings tab was grayed out. It would be really nice if a map used Standard Rules, if you could then change difficulty/barbarian settings when choosing the map.

          Anyways, Thanks for the help.

Isn't there a thread made up for this question at CFC ?
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Higher Ai levels increases the tech research levels almost exponentialy, relative to the human civs. Look around there is more info out there(I have seen it ,however I don't recall where! ).

The AI does not research faster on higher difficulties. It simply trades the research far more cheaply than at lower dificulties. Also the AI recieves more bonuses at higher levels, both in free units and in unit support. The bonuses that the AI recieves can be found in the editor under dificulty levels.

Regarding setting the AI difficulty level, I think I remember reading that it actually sets how hard the game is for the AI. Default is Regent (I believe). Set it to settler for a tough game, or deity for an easy breeze (relative to your own difficulty, of course).

                      No he doesn't, read again.

If you set the comps game difficulty to deity, then it'll be hard for the comp. then put your game difficulty on cheiftan at the same time, a lot more easier for you.
