  • Black magic specialist wanted.....

    AMD 1700+XP, ASUS A7A266, IBM 7200 40GB, 512SAMSUNGDDR, PNY ti4600, WITH A LOGITECH MOUSE. Adelphia cable.

I have updated in proper order, I've defragged, I've tried playing standing on one leg while holding a feather from an eagle and pointing it to the north, with a fire of incence and newt wings, while wearing my bat wing showl, and my Irish setter sweater, and I still get either lag, or out of synch drops. All 3 of us are on prime gaming rigs with broadband, and we can't play by IP for more than 5 minutes. It doesn't matter who hosts, IP or through gamespy, we still get lag and drops. Nice spyware

I would assume that playing with prime rigs would not effect your dropping, that would be your isp. Although i think it effects it to an extent, but if you are getting frequent drops like that it is not your computer.

Are you behind a firewall or proxy?

Are you playing against the same people? Are you in California and playing with people in Greenland? You did install 1.14f, right? Do you hear voices?

Yes, Yes, Yes, we thank u for ur intelegent answers. I can tell u that two of our three machines are behind routers. They both use a Linksys 4 port, and both computers are in the DMZ, so its not the router, and if it were, I would have the same problems my friend here is. Its not his ISP as far as we can tell, because we had the same problems to different extents on Earthlink DSL, earthlink dial up, wlamart dial up, and now his current cable, which I have heard exceeds 1.5 mbit
Me and our third friend play fine, no problems....
But when Our other friend hosts, and I join that game first, Cnich is unable to join, it shows him as connecting, and thats it. I have to back out, then he can join, and then I rejion no problem. Then we start the game, and it will usually go 5 to 10 minutes, then the host see the other two as red, I see Cnich as red, and he see's me as red, then Cnich gets droped. Me and the host can continue to play with no difficulties. When Cnich hosts the same thing happens, cept he see's use both as red, and we see only him as red, then we both get droped from Cnich game, and he ends up by his lonesome. When I host our two player turnbased game between me and verbal, we get either a drop, and it simply says waiting on Cnich....Cnich has left the game, or waiting on Cnich.....out of sync message.
I'm pretty fluent in most things computer, Cnich is an improving amatuer, and our third friend is hopless with out either me or Cnich. So we have spent months trying to figure this out, trust me when i say i'm pretty sure it has nothing todo with a hardware firewall, his Win XP firewall is deactivated, he's in the DMZ, and has no antivirus software installed. We have tried everything from four seperate types of internet connections to a complete uninstall, and reinstall of the game from original plus patches, to PTW plus patches. It makes absolutly no sense. Aside from different mother boards and cpu speeds, our sys are virtually the same, all Athalon Xp's, all GF 4 TI 4600's, the only big difference is I use Win 2k pro, and they use Win XP home. So I call on all the legendary troubleshooters to come forth and put in their two cents............

P.S. If it were because of Me having Win2k, and they Win XP, then Me and our third friend wouldn't be able to play with out any problems.....

Has Cnich been located on the same place all the time? It may be that the infrastructure (the physical cables in and to the building) is lousy. Or could it be that the different ISPs don't own their own equipment and lines, but are renting it from the same ISP?

Maybe there was a thunder storm? Or a power failure? Did you connect the green wire to the yellow one..?

No, The different ISP's were in completly different locations, different counties even. As to the purring *****, this thread is for people who have something of substance to contribute, unless u have something intelegent that might solve our problem save ur two bit purrs for another thread....

Oh God. :roll eyes: See what happens when I go to work. I have been in different counties. Dial up and broadband in each. Same problem. I do have Nortons installed, but not on autoupdate. XP firewall is off. XP update is off. Funny thing is, it worked best on WalMart dialup. Oh well, back to flaming up the EE forum..... Man I can't wait for RoN.
