  • How to install PTW?

I finally got a copy of Play the World, and like to install it.
    How do I proceed?
Do I install PTW over an unpatched or over a patched Civ3?
And how can I keep playing the original game, too?

    Thanks for your help,

    - Rib -

You got to dance around your computer and pray God to change your computer into human.
    Just kidding,
After install PTW, install the 1.14 patch!
Just install it... you can play civ3 after, patched or not(better yes).

    Nice day

I don't think it matters if you have a patched or unpatched version of Civ3. Although I had reinstalled Ci3 vanilla just a few days before PTW without any patches.
Just pop in the CD and choose install, it doesn't install over Civ3, it puts all the new files into a new sub-directory. I just tested the Civ3 CD and it loaded up the same as it used to (but didn't try playing), so I think you can play whichever version you like provided the CD is in the drive. Although after PTW, I doubt I'll ever play standard Civ3 again.

*slightly off-topic now, but something I've just thought of, I payed £30.00 for Civ3, then £20.00 for PTW, therefore total cost to me £50.00. Now that PTW is installed I (fingers crossed) should never need the CD again. Someone could, in theory, use my Civ3 CD to install Civ3, then pay just the £20.00 for PTW and get exactly the same game for £20.00. Luckily I'm both law-abiding and a miserable sod so will not be giving out my Civ3 CD and cannot get in any trouble...

Oh, BTW, make sure U get the correct patch! I found it easier to go through the infogrames website rather than civ3.com.

From the main Apolyton screen follow the Civ III link and then click on civ3 patch center. That leads to two links for the patch you need.

Yes I was thinking along the same lines as a stared at my Civ III disc, wondering what I was supposed to do with it.

Why don't Firaxis just put the European patches on Civ3.com? Its very confusing!
