  • Mouse Freezes when I join the Multiplayer Lobby

As soon as I double click on the multiplayer button my mouse freezes - I still get to type my Player Name and I can still see the list of games & peple chatting?

Can anyone help - I'm desparate to join all this multiplayer fun (or not, as a lot of people seem to think - at least I would like to make my own mind up though)

    ...maybe close your firewall????

Me I got a problem with MSN, when MSN MESSENGER was not loaded, Civ3:PTW freeze when trying to host a MP game. I dont have to be connected at the MSN network, just have MSN loaded.( If someone can answer me why Civ3:PTW work when MSN was open)

Try reinstalling gamespy? Even if PTW works with his own Gamespy engine..

But if you have a firewall try close the firewall.
Do you have a Router to split your connection? Maybe it's your Router?

    Have fun!

thanks, but if it was a router/firewall would I be able to see the list of games???

If anyone else has had the same problem or similar please let me know, I'm not sure if it is the firewall. I have Norton Personal Firewall 2001. It's disabled but I know it blocks certain ports anyway. If anyone can give me an idiots guide of how to get it sorted please let me know.

      Thanks again.

Don't disable NPF - instead set it up so it allows Civilization3X, DirectPlay and possibly GamespyArcade access to the internet, and server rights.

I think this is the way to setup NPF 2001 - taken from the online manual at ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...uals/npf30.pdf

          From Symantec - NPF 2001, v.3.0 manual

Giving a multiplayer game access to the Internet

The first step to making a multiplayer game work is to give it permission to access the Internet.

To give a multiplayer game access to the Internet
          1. On the left side of the Norton Personal Firewall window, click
Personal Firewall > Internet Access Control.
          2. Click Add.
          3. Select the application’s executable file and click Open.
          4. In the Internet Access Control window, click Permit
            access to the Internet.
          5. Click OK.
Note: If the application is already listed, click its entry under Internet Access and choose Permit All.

Placing other players in the Trusted Zone

If giving the game application access to the Internet doesn’t work, place the computers of the other players in your Trusted zone.

To place other players in the Trusted Zone
          1. On the left side of the Norton Personal Firewall window, click
Personal Firewall > Internet Zone Control.
          2. Click the Trusted tab.
          3. Click Add.
          4. Enter the IP addresses of the other players.
I'm not sure if the last part is necessary, but if you're having difficulty connecting to a DirectIP game, you can always try adding your opponents' IP-adresses to the Trusted Zone.

Hope this helps, though I'm personally not entirely sure it is a firewall issue you're experiencing, but it certainly is worth a try.

Hey thanks for the advice on how to actually set it up in firewall. It wasn't the same word for word on my NPF but I think I figured it out.

Just remains to be seen if that actually works yet. If it doesn;t work then I may just swap my mouse and see if that works. I've got a spare knocking around here somewhere....

I'll let you know anyway. Once again thanks for the help.

I've sorted it now - re-installed mouse and it worked?
              Still slow and laggy though??
