  • What about the Music in PTW?

A review I read said that in PTW, an all new music soundtrack has replaced the old, and that this new soundtrack is smaller and less pleasant relative to the original soundtrack. Can we get some feedback on those who have bought the game. Not that this is a critical point for me, but I do enjoy the background music and it would only make sense in my opinion that the expansion add new music MIXED IN with the original. But according to what I have read there is a replacement with an inferior soundtrack. With all the criticism of the expansion, I am considering everything, and I am fairly curious if I would have to give up the original soundtrack I am happy with. Let's hear from those who have bought the expansion.

I haven't really noticed any new music, except when you retire. The music for each of the 4 ages is the same, so I wouldn't worry.
Though by the midpoint of each age the music starts driving me NUTS!! :P
There is probably new victory music as well or something like that, but I haven't won yet in the expansion (too busy trying everybody out!), so I can't say that for certain.

I don't think this is true. It is the same soundtrack as far as I can tell. Maybe some extra added in, but definitely nothing taken away.

The opening movie sound is different with a different movie.
That, I think, is what they are referring to!

          Yeah, I think your right.
I think they are only referring to the opening movie and perhaps the main menu screen.
I keep a record of all my civ games here.

That, and the main screen has different music too. It's pretty neat, though I'm not sure if it fits with the original music......although I guess to most people, such analysing wouldn't occur

Thanks for the feedback. This has removed a major hindrance to my EVENTUAL purchase of the expansion, since I can see how the several small extras spreadout through the product improves the single-player game. However, I agree with the argument that it is overpriced at $30. I will wait to see how FIRAXIS approaches the development of PTW (i.e. more patches) and what will come beyond PTW. I figure, PTW will EVENTUALLY be polished the way the 1.29 patch polished CIVIII. I was there at the beginning with CIVIII, "Limited Edition", "strategy guide" and all. It took three patches to complete CIVIII, the fourth was the polish. From now on, FIRAXIS may get more of my money, but they are going to have to earn it like the rest of the industry. I am still watching FIRAXIS with interest (CIVIII blows away CIVII), but all my TRUST in the company and Sid have been destroyed. Thanks everyone.

The BGMs are in MP3 format so you can swap the files with your own mp3 collections and have them play in Civ III. It would be cool if anyone here does exactly what I do. Here's my mod. Most of them are Soundtrack, ambients, tehcno or non vocals though I have some weezer songs in the list for no appropriate reason other than I like em.

                Menu
                Sasha - Xpander

                Ancient Sountrack
                Weezer - only in Dreams
Brian Eno - The chill air
Robert Miles - In the dawn
                Lydia - Tim story

                Middle Ages
                600AD - Chrono Trigger
                Gattaca - Gattaca Theme
                Beethoven - 9th symphony; 4th movement
                Andrea Bocelli - Ave Maria
                Zelda - Hyrule Castle Theme

                Ind/Modern
Brink of time(jazz remix) - Chrono Trigger
                Weezer - Death and destruction
J.S Bach - Overture Air II

                Modern Onlys
                Square Pusher - Beep Street
Orbital - Halycon On + On
                Global Communication - 12:18

Also Diplomacy BGMs are editable. I have mostly J-pops playing for asian diplomacy BGM and Gothic stuff for early euros. Modern Euros mostly get Electronica stuff. Americans are my fav with Tribe called quest's "scenario" during trade talks.

What music do you think will be great for Civ soundtrack?
                :-p

Wow, this is exciting! I had no idea that you could do this...
Oh, I have so many ideas for ways to customize my soundtrack now. Thanx for the idea!

A question: are the germans the only ones with a personalized ancient ages soundtrack?

The drums and all that stuff you know... starts with BONG BONG, you build a warrior and becomes BONG BONG PHEEEW, you build a city and hell breaks loose
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

another question: I have once read ( don't remember if here or somewhere else ) that there were 3 new musical scores. I know of 2 actually, the new one w the new intro and the other one when you win. All the in-game tunes for all the 4 ages are the same. Where is the third????

3rd is probably referring to menu

Really, I think the 3 new tracks are the intro, menu, and credits. Check the sounds folder to check.

thanks, that's it, the menu...always thought it was the continuation of intro's...
