Is this good or bad? More to the point does it have any bearing on why Infogrames can't bring themselves to let us europeans actually buy PTW!

The way the european release dates are going we won't even be able to start the war by christmas. Either they are selling all the boxes on your side of the Atlantic or they won't let us have it until the next patch is ready (that might not be a bad thing though).

Never give an AI an even break.

i think we'll have to wait and see the next two weeks before making any serious comments

i dont think the issue of the european release is a matter of avaliable copies...

Not out yet in Australia either. We'll probably recieve them when Europe does...

Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home." - Glen Bateman, The Stand (Stephen King)

I don't know what it means either, or is supposed to mean.

I suppose if someone owns stock in Inforgrames they actually care about sales. I wonder if anyone around here owns stock in Inforgrames.

Actually, it does matter. Good sales will lead to more resourses being available to support the game. It will also leave the possibility of other expansions open.

Poor sales and you can kiss more expansions good bye, and bet on the patch/enhancement process being curtailed.

I am of course praying for awful sales for this and all other intentionally "dumbed down to meet mass market level games".

              I hope they go broke.

I want well designed games like SMAC. If products like Civ3 and PTW sell well I will never again see such a gem.

Funny, i'd always considered SMAC simple compared to Civ3. Much better AI, expanding the border concept, and more civilizations. Not to mention the stuff that makes it better like no damned fungus, changed unit support, no wiping out a few citys in 1 blast. To be Civ3 lost some of SMACs more annoying things like custom unit design and expanded/included others. For those reasons I play Civ3 and not SMAC, tried going back but I just couldn't do it. The only thing i've seen where SMAC is still beating Civ3 is for the increased theme value and social engineering.

Anyway, hope it does well, i'd love to see more expansions and (eventually) a Civilization 4.

correct. civ3's good sales lead to ptw and patches coming out 9 months after release

Roller Coaster Tycoon is from Infogrames, not EA.

Tycoon is an old trademak of MicroProse -> Hasbro interactive -> Infogrames

Still desparately waiting for PTW over here and really hoping for much more to come in the future, patches, expansions and maybe even no 4 one day.

If they do go broke, i could well be the end of tbs as a whole, hmm, yeah , that's what we want

I agree, as much as some of us want it to fall flat on its arse because of IG pushing it out to make money, i want it to sell as well as possible and then fall flat on its arse.
