  • Can the AI Play the New Modes Decently?

    Hey Gang,

Since I'm really only looking at this expansion from the SP side of things, especially for these new play modes, can the AI actually play a good game?

I've heard, for example, the AI has ONE tactic in Regicide which is to leave his king in the capital city and defend it all to heck. Not a bad tactic in itself but painful if it NEVER varies from this. Does the AI ever move its King to clever hiding places?

To be honest, most of the new modes were designed for multi-player to enable quicker games than the traditional long single-player type game.

I think that the AI plays them very predictably and conservatively. As such, I think that they are easier than the traditional game.

Take Elimination. Multiple times I've seen the AI plop down a city guarded by one spear when I have 4 WC's, swords, whatever ancient attack unit you can think of.

Agreed, the new modes are for human competition.

I don't think the AI was adjusted much (if at all) to cope with them.

IIRC it was mentioned on one of the chats, that these were not really ment for SP.

                Does this include Victory Locations???

                Thanks,

Soren definitely mentioned at some point that the modes would be available for SP, but that the AI would NOT be modified in any way to deal with the different victory conditions. So the leader-bunker-mentality is probably going to be the norm for the AI in Regicide games.

That's a pity but you can choose regicide/Mass. In this case the ai is able to let one in the capital, the rest is bunkered in other cities. Much better.
