  • Would you recommend I buy PTW? Is it worth it?

I've heard alot about Play The World, and from what I hear with negative reviews, I start to wonder whether I should buy it at all. I would like some help on deciding. I might buy it if you can convince me!

I wouldn't use it for multiplayer straight away, since I don't have time at present. But are the new civs, Great Wonders, and all the rest really worth the price??

P.S. Does it need Win98? Or is it fine with Win95?

James, due to how polls work @ Poly, this poll will unfortunately not help many. The problem is that only those that have already voted can see the result. As those that still don't have PtW obviously can't vote, they will not be able to see what the "recommendation of the crowd" is. I suggest reposting the poll (you will probably not be able to just amend this one), adding one more option like "I do not own PtW yet".

You can click 'View Results' if you can't vote. It is to the right of the 'Vote!' button.

        Oops... and and ...

One learns something new every day... now I am able to see results even for polls I haven't voted in! Great! Thanks!

Sorry for my silly comment. Will try to do better next time.

James, I would not recommend buying it.
If your buying it for single player it is not worth the money. It is probably worth maybe $10 US dollars ($20 Canadian). All you get is a few extra civs, a new wonder, a few extra movement options, and a few extra units. The gameplay is exactly the same. If your buying it for MP too bad because it doesn't work correctly. I haven't tried MP yet but check out the threads on this site and you'll get the idea.
Even with a functional MP I'm not sure this is worth what they are charging.
My opinion, don't buy it. Wait a month or so and see if they truly fixed MP and patched various problems still existing in the single player game. If they have and it is still on Amazon for $20 maybe get it but ONLY if you are going to use multiplayer. If not, it's not a good buy. Wait for it to appear on the used game shelves and pick it up for $10.

            The questions:

What type of Civ3 player are you?

            A) casual player
            B) hard-core fan

Do you like playing Hotseat or PBEM?

            A) No
            B) Yes

If you answered B) for at least one question, I would say buy it.

Wow, theres a lot conveniently left out here.

              hmm. where to start.

              improved ai
              new espionage and preference menus
added active deals to diplomacy screen
improved mod swapping-really easy to do
3 new buildings, 3 new terrain improvements
              game speed is improved
              can turn off cultural flips
              new victory options
              expansionist civs can pop cities
editor improvements: can create much larger maps, can increase range for air units
simultaneous mode, though in the mp menu, can be played SP
              auto bombard option
all worker options can now appear as buttons (no need to memorize the hotkeys)
included scenarios and maps and graphics mods
included new units packs-feudal japan, wwII, dinos

Quite a lot more than just some new civs and a new wonder.

And, yes, the game play is primarily the same. I thought that was a good thing. an improved game with a few new options.

Since you said that you were going to play SP for a while, I would recommend getting it, as it is a vast improvement SP. MP, well....

These threads are becoming repetitive. Maybe it is time for the mods to close some of them and leave only one open to organize the debate...

Just a suggestion, nothing against your thread, James...
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

                    lets see...
                    there is the no-poll thread

                    the 20 bucks poll

                    the three days old poll

although this poll older, i'm going to leave the 20 bucks one as it has some more clear options and close this....
