  • Limit of 2050AD how to remove that??

Hi all im new to Civ I got Play the world and enjoy the game alot.(just hate how CPU builds so many cities) I was in a game and just got my first Marine unit(god he sucked even with 8attack vs 4defence units) and the game said GAME OVER 2050 retire?????

    WTH!!!

Nowhere can I find info on this crappy limit of 2050AD. Can I disable this? I dont like artificial limits!

No, but you can keep playing as long as you like. The score is no longer tabulated, but the game offers you a choice of ending or continue to play.

I noticed you can keep on going but no scoring?

Why such a limit? How the hell does anyone win the game for pure tech and other features without attacking early?

      This awards people who fight?

If you are not going to war at all then you're playing the game wrong and will do badly (if you're not then you should up the difficulty level). If you play all war then you'll probably do do badly aswell because you are not upgrading your cities to make them productive. You do need to strike a balance, expand and build a good army on one hand, whilst keeping a productive empire.

I have found the game to be most fun when I strike a balance between the two.

Why no score after 2050? Because one of the victory conditions is having the high score at 2050. The end year can be changed in the editor if you find it a problem.

I have played a few games where I did not go to war at all and did quite well actually, though I have never played the game and just gotten marines in 2050. Perhaps when I was just starting, I would prob get bored and restart if I reached 2000

If you keep playing and refine your game I think you'll find its no problem to research through the Modern Era techs well before the end of the 20th C. I just won the space race in 1820(thats with very little war) which I'm sure won't impress any true professionals on this forum.

              Won in 1820

Hey, you WON the space race in 1820. WOWEEEEE. I can't believe it!!!! Thats one for the Guiness book! And I'll bet you were playing on that REALLY hard Chieftain setting. I'm really impressed. And one of your first games EVER! Wow.

Actually, I'm joshing you. Hope you have a sense of humor. Actually it's not bad doing that without a fight. But you didn't tell us the difficulty level, map size or number of civs. These all change our impression of how well you really did. I've won the space race myself in the mid 1700s, but that was on Monarch level. I'm sure that someone who plays at Deity level has done even better.

Oooo that first sentence I was really angry, but I do have a sense of humour I think. To be sure I expected that reaction which is why I said "which I'm sure won't impress any true professionals on this forum". Didn't add any game information because I wasn't saying it to gloat. I am absolutely certain people have done faaaaaaaaaaaaar better. I can't emphasize that enough, I am a very mediocre player.

And by the way it was Monarch not Chieftain

I usually try to avoid war as much as possible until I have researched modern tanks and I have upgrade a good bunch of my cities.

Then I turn these cities into manufacturers and start to attack my neighbours etc. etc.

I currently in an Emperor game on a huge world, 16 enemies, and I possess about 45% of the land surface

It's cool, the only problem is the war wearyness

Okay I cant get tech fast the AI always owns me tech wise.

I started a map on Tiny with 4cpu and 80% water mass. This made the island small(to help me with getting use to it and stop the CPU building spree) it worked! The good news is I landed my first attack on the AI in 2002 and killed off 1 AI =) Godbless Bombard and Tanks!

Ive got another 3 hours of play im guessing. All the AIs are max tech so it wont be easy.

On the Scenario Properties dialog box. Check the Time Limit checkbox. This allows you to set how many turns are in the game. 540 is the default that will take you to 2050. Increase the number and your game will go longer. The widget goes up to 1000 turns. To be honest, I haven't tried a game where I set it higher.

                          Warpstorm,

I haven't cracked the editor open yet (too busy), so did you notice if they gave you the option to push back the staring year from 4000 BC to let's say 7500 BC ?

I always thought that civilization really got a boost when the Black Sea flooded, forcing people out of their Ice Age green house. It would also mean that many ancient improvements you would start with would have to be removed since you would have another 70 turns to play with...

The range appears to be 10000BC-10000AD.
