  • Notes/Help for the PTW Mods?

Are there any notes and info about the mods? There seem to be 3 different versions of snoopy's mod, I don't even know which one does what.

Also, do you still just go in a replace/overwrite the files in the art/terrain directory if you want to install the watercolor or snoopy mod?

    Thanks.

For PtW, you can put stuff in the PtW Scenarios folder; you will need a bix with the exact same name as the folder you put in there. Easiest way is to look at how a folder already in there is set up (Snoopy's for example); then create a folder and bix.

You would then use load scenario instead of load game, choosing the one you wanted. This has the advantage of being able to use multiple mods if so desired.

      To expand upon kring's instructions.

If you just want to play a random world with standard PTW rules, just chose the scenario.

To use it with another scenario or map, add it to the scenario search folder. I know, I know. Now for the explanation.

The way the scenario paths work is you give your mod a list of directories (folders) to search in order. If you have multiple directories separate them by a semicolon ';'. You can use relative pathing (..\..\someMod) also. The assumption is that the search starts from the Civ3PTW/Scenarios directory

In addition to folders that are explicitly listed in this field it will search through other default paths.

The search order is as follows:

      1. directories listed in the path in the order listed
      2. directory named the same as your mod
      3. the PTW standard directories
      4. the Civ3 standard directories

Whenever PTW tries to open a file it goes through these in order and stops when it finds the first match. While this article is mentioning graphics this technique works for sound, animation and text files also.

You have it down pat, WarpStorm; I figured you could explain it in more depth than I.

          Warpstorm,
Since this is the 2nd or 3rd (or greater) time you have done this post, wouldn't it be wise to get your own thread on it and topped? (hint, hint)

That's a great idea. How do I do it?

If he couldn't, there'd be something wrong. I mean, he practically invented it, remember..

                  WarpStorm,
Is the method you mentioned from creating scenerios? Or does it work for playing them? I was talking about how to play with snoopy's mod etc, without having to swap files, etc... Where did you take your screen shot from, the editor?

                  Thanks.

If you want to play a scenario using one of Snoopy's mods that came with the CD, then Load Scenario, instead of Load Game, then choose the Snoopy one you want. The terrain and stuff is already there.

Yes, what I was mentioning is how to add a terrain mod to a scenario. If the scenario already has it (there are already scenario's included for SnOOpy's, mine, Winter, and European), like kring said, all you need to do is run it from the Load Scenario option on the menu.

BTW, Zinc, the screen shot is from the editor.

I am still at a loss as to how to play on an existing map, with a different rules set, and using a terrain mod. Clue me in please.
