Need Civ 3 to play with PTW??

I just wonder if we need to have the original Civ3 game to use the PTW game?

Does any of the guys who have it can answer this question?

Page 5 of the PTW manual says Note blah blah you need the original installed.
PTW goes in a folder in civ3, no seperate directory.
