Question for Firaxians re:Protectorates

Hi,

In the September Chat, someone asked the Firaxians if you could have Protectorates, a la SMAC, in PtW, and one of the Firaxians suggested that this was actually already possible-but then he didn't elaborate!!! I was wondering if any Firaxians, or anyone from the September chat, could let me know HOW you can have a Protectorate-style diplomatic stance. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough!

Never played SMAC so how did they work in that game? by protectorate do you mean 1 Civ (probably with a larger military) protecting another Civ?

It exists in how you can beat up on a civ, then demand techs/cash from them the rest of the game.
