  • Cultural groups of new civs

Although it doesn't have much impact on gameplay, I thought I'd start a thread about the expected cultural groups for each of the new civs.

Since we're moving to 24 civs and 5 groups, I figured that only one new group would be European.

    So:

    New World: Spanish, Celts
    European: Vikings
    Greco-Roman: Carthaginians
    Messapotamian: Ottomans, Arabs
    Far Eastern: Koreans, Mongols

I can also see the Ottomans going into Greco-Roman.

IMHO spanish and celts would be Europe.

            European: Vikings, Spanish, Celts
            Mediterranean: Carthaginians, Ottomans
            Middle Eastern: Arabs
            Far Eastern: Mongols, Koreans

are my guesses, at least. I know that the latest screenshots of some of the city views confirm where the ottomans are placed, but I don't remember if they're meditteranean or mideastern.

According to those screenshots, the Ottomans are Middle Eastern.

Sorry, when I said "New World" I meant "Native American".

I think there is as good an argument for the Spanish the civilisation to be in the Native American cultural group as there is for the American civilization. I put the Cetls there more for balance, since the Vikings make the fifth European.

The Spanish??? The Celts??? Native Americans?????

Why do you want to "balance" culture groups? They have no influence on the game...

Culturally, the USA is no more "Native American" than the Spanish. If you extend the idea to the modern-day descendants of the Aztec people, theur culture has great similarities with Spanish culture, much more so than German or Russian culture. If the Celts were the forerunners of the Irish (not sure), there are almost as many of their descendants in North America as in Ireland.

As for influence, my understanding was that members of your cultural group are 1) more likely to regard you favorably in diplomacy, especially initially; and 2) faster to assimilate when you conquer their peoples. Subtle influences, to be sure.

Subtle, but present, but I'd still put Spain and Celts as European.
Disapointed that there is no new American Civ in PTW.
