I'm so disappointed to know that this feature is not in PTW. I guess Faraxis cannot write the AI to handle this. But they can at least do it for multiplay. We humans can handle this right? And this feature is very simple to implement.

Actually, General Maximus, I think you have to think of unit trades in a sort of abstract fasion. That is, technically, you are not giving them YOUR infantry, you are simply giving them a whole heap of guns, ammunition and body armour! The abstract part is that you are losing one of your own infantry. I guess, though, that you can assume that, without all those guns and ammo, you had to "disband" one of your infantry divisions!

You know what XOR, you just pointed out a good strategy if unit trading is to be made availible. Excellent.==========================

Not unit trading as you describe, but as a form of military assistance. That should be in the game.
That means you could only offer units or request them, not trade them with money or something. Plus you would had to be at war together versus someone else.
Unit trading would have to be something like this: A civ payed the other civ a sum every turn to hire his troops for protection. Such as the Saudi Arabs and Kuweit have hired British soldiers.
But no matter how its implemented it would be cool."Military training has three purposes: 1)To save ourselves from becoming subjects to others, 2)to win for our own city a possition of leadership, exercised for the benefit of others and 3)to exercise the rule of a master over those who deserve to be treated as slaves."-Aristotle, The Politics, Book VII

no, i think you should be able to sell off units.
for example, if i SOLD my friend 10 tanks, he would only have the 10.
if i SOLD him oil, he could build as many as he wanted.
i like the former a bit more, as it gives me a LITTLE more control over the suitation."I've lived too long with pain. I won't know who I am without it. We have to leave this place, I am almost happy here."

Here's a possible idea, you can sell, give or trade units to another civ, but ONLY if you have either an MPP or Alliance with that Civ! That would remove the exploit fashion of Unit trading, and perhaps allow a way for a Civ to honour an MPP agreement WITHOUT having to declare war himself!
Anyway, just a thought.

I would like to be able to send my units into MPP terrirtory as to garrison them in their cities, airlift them to their cities, rebase my planes to their cities and similar things for defending and protecting allies. It used to be possible in Alpha Centauri, for example (except the airlifting). In Civ2 one could even get units repaired in ally territory. Not just secretly donating weapons.Vini, Vidi, Poluti.

Civ3 is supposed to be a step forward from AC and Civ2 on everything. But Faraxis has this "if it takes too much efford to accomplish, then don't do it" philoshophy.==========================

The idea was, the buyer/renter will have the unit's fire power for its war against other civ by paying only the maintenance cost (or may be not) without have to build it, while the seller will have reserve unit without having to pay its upkeep (ok, for this scenario, maybe more code will be needed)Last edited by Ekanata; September 12, 2002, 08:11.
