The new box is better then the old box because it at least has a few interesting tidbits in the background. The old box was just so bland; a monochrome map of east Asia. What was exciting about that?

Neuschwanstein Castle, built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria between 1869 and 1886. It's in Germany. Walt Disney built a similar version of it in his Disney theme parks. They're in Florida, California, France, Japan and probably somewhere else right near you soon enough. Bleh.

Anyway, I couldn't help but notice the frigate stalking that poor, defenseless submarine on the cover of the new box:

"Cap'n! That old, wooden, sail-powered frigate's cannonball took the tip off our periscope! If we dive, we'll fill up with water and sink!"

"Well, guess we'd better shut down the nuclear reactor and scuttle the sub, boys. I'll go down with the ship; you report our failure to sink an 18th century sailing vessel back to the Admiral."

      "Aye, aye, Cap'n!"

Seeing the new art and knowing that "Unreal Tournament" also is going to be published at about the same time, I had a great idea - why not go hand in hand to build a multiplayer "Tournament" brand that can be easily recognized
across the Infogrames line of great multiplayer titles? The titles even could benefit from the great reputation of each other!

I guess that the guy on the right side of the box is the futuristic version of Genghis...

yeah, i just mentioned that because i was disapointed that they couldn't get that in the first game, but i'm looking forward to ptw.

box art looks kinda aoe though, don't ya think? i think the first one suited civ's subtle class more, like the civ 3 box.
Yes very Age like I think too. Exept for the pyramids..

That is one ugly box. Now I'll have to mail order it so as not to be seen carrying it around.

I thought the original was a bit more sleek and sophisticated. The new one looks like a too cartoony. So call me a box snob.

Well... the box art for Civ3 looks also too much cartoony. Don't get me wrong, I like cartoons, but they just don't fit into a Civ game
This space is empty... or is it?

I really don't care as it'll be in the trash can after the disc is successfully installed.

Funny, I rarely throw my game boxes away... I had the Civ2 box until recently, but then I needed some space on the shelves and I had to throw it away. Maybe I'm a little freak.

                          or am i just a civ-freak?

Which one? The civ3 box, the old PTW box or the new one?

nope, game boxes are cool, 10's of years from now you will see a game box you played when you were 10, 20, whatever, and it'll bring back great memories.

I have collected jpg's of all the old games I used to play and burned them to cd. I have a bout 30 of them, but i'd love to get the rest.

And that's another thing that is great about games that get old, they get harder and harder to find, which makes their value for it go higher.

Boxes should never die, or games become what the music industry is today - constant brainwashing crap
