So let me get this right. I payed $50 for a game that I guess I assumed has multiplayer and it doesn't (I bought it to play with my friends.) I assumed because even the lowest of games usually has some sort of multiplayer support. So anyway, I trudge through the solo game, but just am not quite satisfied, because I've been doing nothing but multiplayer gaming for several years now, and solo play, no matter how enticing, just doesn't do it for me. Then I'm kinda excited about reading in a forum (months ago) that they were working on a multiplayer "patch", but now this patch turns out to be a package that I have to spend another ($30.00??) for. Am I the ONLY freakin person out here who feels they're getting completely bent over???? This multiplayer support should be a free download. Maybe then I could play more than the 5 games I played solo and hope to feel I didn't totally waste $50.00. Boy will I read the box closer next time. Yet another reason software should be returnable within a reasonable time, like 3-7 days or so. Software companies have been screwing us for years with pathetic software and then they cry cause people are pirating their stuff. I'd say we aren't even close to being even. Sure, demos have come a long way, and affect almost every purchase I make, but it still angers me, and now I've gotten off on a rant here....

Why is it that whenever someone doesn't like the game, they feel compelled to post it here? This has been rehashed so many times, i'm getting sick of it.
Someone please, close this thread.Eventis is the only refuge of the spammer. Join us now.
Long live teh paranoia smiley!

you state that you play demos before buying the game, so why wouldn't you do a net or message board search to find out the story on the game as well? Why not RTFB? Its not that hard.
This is old, old news. If it was early Nov, your ignorance would be excusable.
Why is it a suprise that multiplayer would not be in a free patch? [insert old arguments of civnet and civ2 MGE here] What successful game these days doesn't have expansions?
sigh
why don't software stores have consumer friendly return policies? Duh. I get the game, install, find the no-cd patch, return the next day, thus saving hours of download time from kazaa and no virus problems. that's a great business idea.

I'd have more sympathy if you were a civ fanatic (no pun intended) and had bought the game in the first few days. As you've said read the box.We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Maybe if you were able to READ and not see a multiplayer support on the box, you wouldn't have this problem. No one held you to gunpoint and made you buy the game. It's your own damn fault you're too stupid to know know what's in a game. The internet does have information about such things. They don't call me Springfield Fats because I'm morbidly obese!
