  • Play the World: Last Chance?

Is anyone concerned that this addon will probably be the last addon for Civ3?

I'm concerned mostly about the absense of a few things that are practically needed, especially considering the fact that probably over half the units created so far, are futuristic ones and Civ3 really requires a new era for it, all Firaxis has to do is add a blank era, which modders can fill in.

        hhmm A general maybe

I'm guessing there will be one more, unless of PTW
        are really bad.
From a commercial point of view it makes sence to do so.
but also to 'give in' to the fanbase,
and hey, why patch it for free, if al you need to do is add a few things and sell it for good money
(btw: i'm not being negative or cynical here.
I would do the same and don't blame them in any way for it. I like the game and it is good enough to sell some more PTW's )

If PTW becomes a best-seller, boosting at the same time the Civ3's sales, then I guess that a new addon is a possibility, much like what have been happening to The Sims.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

I don't know---most addons or sequals to my most beloved games have dissapointed me: for example Alpha Centuri or Age of Empires. Sid seems to be the only guy to hit the nail on the head on the same idea more than once. Civ 3 is one of those delightful exceptions, however there is a time where you can only go so far (although I have to admit that good ol Mr. Meir is the king of successfull "sequal" games).

I would think there would be multiple expansions, but dependent on sales of ptw. hopefully there will be another or 2 after ptw.

I want the ToT multimaps, but perhaps something like that will only come with a total new release or civ4

As far as I know, Sid Meier has never made a sequel. He certainly didn't make Civ II or III

There have been hints of a future beyond PtW. Keep your fingers crossed.

I don't think you'll see any other game expansion after PTW. A couple of patch, maybe.

In PC Format interview (mentioned in Civ III news here at Apolyton) Sid answered a question about a future Civ 4.

His reply is that he can't imagine anything left out of Civ III (PTW) that should be included in a future Civ 4.

He only left the door open, mentioning the usual gap of years between the others Civ releases. "Don't hold your breath", seems the message.

BTW, Civ is not The Sim, with its endless number of expansions, that resemble me the accessories available for Barbie, the famous "merchandise doll".
"We are reducing all the complexity of billions of people over 6000 years into a Civ box. Let me say: That's not only a PkZip effort....it's a real 'picture to Jpeg heavy loss in translation' kind of thing."
