  • Faction Editor for CivIII

During the little chat last night with Dan and Soren, the topic of SMAC-style faction editor for CivIII came up. Obviously, it's be much easier to type diplomatic responses into a box and let the program do the hard work of editing a string txt file for you. It seems that a diplo-txt editor was on the cards at one point, but was dumped before it was finished, and probably never will be.

My question is this? Should there be a faction editor for CivIII, allowing you to add civs easily, rather than the current malarkey we have to go through now. How hard can it be to come up with a program that automatically edits a text file? Well, Dan Magha was actually surprised no-one had come up with one yet, since the source code was apparently made available.

    Any takers? Is it do-able?

i never tinkered with making my own civ, but it it's just editing a text file, it shouldnt be hard at all to code a stupid litte visual basic or c program to modify it.

i'm definately going to make my own civ for MP (well, at least i'll be changing the leaderheads and names)

If adding a civ just means editing a text file, that should be fairly easy to do. But isn't there more involved in that?

And, btw. I voted for yes, because having things configurable is always a good thing. Having a tool for it is even better.

It's not quite as simple as editing a few words. CivIII uses string txt - which is a ***** to edit. Just check out the topped thread in the Creation forum. I think that there should be some tool that does that work for you.

To the people who don't want a civilization editor, can I ask what is the objection?
