He agrees with you I guess. I have had this debate in other forms before with old civ hands, and nobody agrees with me.

I wonder if it is just that I never played the game before civ III and look at Hoovers differently?

Maybe. IMO, our acquisition of wonders was much more important in earlier versions in order to balance the AI building shortcuts, so we may be biased. I've certainly won civ3 on high levels without Hoover where I wasnt the number 1 civ at that time.

So Civ3 is your first TBS? Have you not played SMAC/X? If not, you should!

Yes. Civ III was my first addiction to a computer game. I have EU around the house somewhere, but have not gotten into it yet. You think SMAC is better?

I didnt like EU.

Smac/x is the best TBS game that I've played despite its being 5-6 years old. civ3's AI is better, and more capable of winning without cheats, but smac/x is more fun with way more variations.

I remember reading a strategy thread where a player deliberately polluted the planet so that the ice caps melted and flooded his neighbors before they could build protective domes. Now thats an imaginative method of attack.
