Yes, let start it without the patch, and upgrade when it becomes available.

Hey, we didn't really agree on anything...
I'll be generating 4 continent maps, and the one that get's most points will be checked out by some neutral party, to make sure it's ok.Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

I'd like to play as America if that is OK.
I think we shouldn't bother waiting for the Euro patch either. It could take weeks to come out for all we know.

The ranking of 4 maps by each player just slows everything down.If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

Damn, looks like i'm late- alva PMed me about this-
i'd love to join, though. My ass is being kicked in this PBEM i play, and i'd really like to join such a game with teams and all that, not a simple- SPish PBEM without much contact and diplomacy.
Can i still join?
Pleeeeaaaaase....

Well, I thought we had reached the point of not starting as teams but deciding later. If we go to, say, 1000BC and decide then there are several possible choices. Someone may have dropped out. Someone may have been eliminated. Teams could be 2:2:3. Someone may be so strong they choose to play on alone.
I am prepared to go with 7 players if everyone else is.
Maps - either we set up three or four starts and play the most popular (doesn't take very long if it is a decision on the first turn) or someone independent checks (and maybe tweaks) the map to ensure everyone gets a reasonable start but not both, that is overkill.
I would go for multiple starts, everyone votes on their initial start and we play whichever we are generally happiest with. If it later becomes a team game a poor or isolated start isn't necessarily the end of the world.
Final comment - can we resolve this quickly and get started this weekend please.Never give an AI an even break.

I want to play in teams with equal number of players each - 2:2:2 or 3:3. If we are 8 - then 2:2:2:2 or 4:4 (worse variant). And I think the idea of the decision is to see your team mates, not to eliminate them. Only to be sure there are no separated teams.
Maybe with neutral arbiter will be the best - he will ensure all teams are together and they have reasonably good starting locations.
So, who is still in for the game and who is not?
