  • Strat Forum PBEM: Game 4

This thread is for the fourth game of the Strat Forum PBEMs, which uses an MP version of the AU Mod. Due to unfortunate difficulties with game 1, we were forced to abondon it. Here is the second attempt.

    Participants (in order of play):
    Alexman : Americans
    Dominae : Zulus
    Sir Ralph : Arabians
    jshelr : Egyptians

    Settings:
    Emperor level
    Culturally-linked starts off
    Accelerated Production off
    Small (80x80)
    Pangaea
    70% Water (Medium)
    Normal
    Temperate
    4 Billion
    Roaming Barbs

I went up and posted this, assuming each of you want to play. I also assumed we still want the same settings. I'm inclined to change the amount of water coverage to make the game faster and more furious. We can also change civs at this time, although I have no problem sticking with the Americans.

Do you say that we should decrease the land so we have less room? That's fine by me, if it's fine with the expansionists. Maximum water is more "standard" for four players on a small map anyway.

BRC, if you're making the map, could we make sure the game is on Emperor before we start? Setting the difficulty in the editor was a great idea, but it doesn't seem to work for research rate.

No problem. Can you tell me what you had to do in order to keep it at Emperor??

Expansionist civs have enough of an advantage on Pangea maps that decreasing the land mass should be only fair.

The fact that setting the difficulty level for a player does not set the same level with respect to research is a definite bug.

My new civ choices are: Zulus, Aztecs, Iroquois (non-Industrious!).

Dominae, if you don't take the Yanks, I will.

BRC, here are some steps to create a game that worked for me:
            1) Generate a map at the required settings
            2) Set number of players to the desired number
            3) Redistribute starting locations and resources
            4) Make sure the map is balanced. If it's not, go to step 1.
            5) Assign starting locations
            6) Import AU MP mod rules.
            7) Save as scenario
            8) Start a random SP PTW game at the desired difficulty
            9) Alt-Shift-Q and go to the MP screen
            10) Set game type to PBEM and load the scenario
            11) Set player names and civs.
            12) Launch game and hit escape for passwords.
            13) Save game
            14) Exit PTW, restart, and load the game from the main screen. Make sure it's at your desired level.

I would not dare threaten someone who picks warmonger civs like Zulu, Aztecs, or Iroquois!

Can you blame me for getting sold on the Americans from your thread?

I'm up to try an expansionist civ this time. My choices are Arabia or Iroquois.

                    I assume Arabia is preferred.

Initial post updated. Once jshelr chimes in, BRC will be able to finish the setup, and we can get going (again)!

Nothing like posting send, I tell ya, to get promoted.

I was going to complain about going last, it should be age before beauty, but nobody took the Iroquois. On the other hand, my Chinese worker in game three actually builds things once in a while. Oh, the agony of choice. The Zulu actually rock in human hands, although don't bother to try and build anything. Give me Egypt and give me horses.

My 3000th post was not spam or "turn sent", but a serious on-topic post in the Gathering Storm private forum.

But you're right, PBEMs and demogames help as lot to spam the way up. And I don't even participate in "Nation States", which is the most spammy forum I ever saw in my life, including Off Topic and the Communtiy forum.

Not sure about this, we could be about the same age. Although my 24 years old son didn't yet make me a grandpa.

Now that is a fair contest. Do you jitterbug? If you can jitterbug, you are older than I am. My oldest is 36, but I was precocious.
