  • PBEM with a twist (another one)

This time, the twist is not related to scenario's, but to which civ you play :
You do not choose your own civ, someone else does.

    In other words,
Player 1 chooses a civ for player 2.
Player 2 chooses a civ for player 3.
    ...
Player z chooses a civ for player 1.

    What do you say ?

By the way, Dissident will be moderator, but he does not know it yet.

I say it sounds like fun, count me in! We are likely to see tons of crappy civs in this game... I would personally be tempted to try playing the Koreans or the English for this game...

My email is vondrack@jimaz.cz. The only thing I'd really dislike would be Accelerated Production and/or having some victory conditions switched off, otherwise, I would be happy to play just about anything you can come up with - I assume standard rules plus mostly random map, right?

Count me in, too. But only if you start in a week, not earlier.

              Ok - I am interested ....
              Sounds fun to me

How do you get around the fact everyone will give each other the English ???

I am GMT+10 when you work out the order of play.

Oh, I forgot to mention I was GMT+1.

As for the "everybody English" problem, I suggest that players assign civs to others in the same order they posted in this thread, even if they are not going to be "adjacent" players once the game starts (as I suppose we will make the playing order based upon timezones). Flandrien assigns a civ to Dissident, Dissident to alva, alva to me etc.

Are we 7 already? Was alva saying "I am in" or just fooling around?

BTW, alva and Tiberius seem to be extremely experienced in taking part in PBEM games, just have a look at their gigantic 400-post "PBEM, Anyone?" thread.

j/k, guys... but I do hope this game will not be that cursed!

EDIT: Ah, crossposting with alva. Sounds like he's in...

                        @ Tibi

BTW, an idea crossed my mind... basing the playing order on the timezones may not be the best solution. Would everybody care to state what periods of day he is able to play his turns? Adjusting all of them to GMT and sorting them to maximize the smoothness may yield better results than simply using timezones - as some people can play in the morning, others in the evening, which shifts the "effective" timezone a lot.

For me, the "time window" is basically 8am to 10pm GMT (sometimes as late as 2-3am GMT though...). Ideally, 8am to 9am, as that's when I wake up and start doing things almost every day. Later times are okay on 90% of days, but not every single day...

                          My "time window" would be:

                          5 pm - 9 pm GMT

I don't guarantee however that if I get the savegame at 9pm GMT (11pm my time) I will play it that night. I have to sleep, you know ...
