  • PBEM with a short break in January

I got PTW yesterday and I'm eager to start an e-mail game. The problem is I will be away from January 15th to the 25th. Ten days seems like a long time but perhaps it's not such a big gap in 'PBEM time'.

If no one has an objection to the break, I'd like to start a game. Here's what I'd like to do: (Updated)

    4 human players
Small map, medium to large land mass, random temperature and so on.
Regent level (I'm not an especially good player)

    Players:
    Anatolia - Koreans
    Alva - Persians
    CerberusIV - Ottomans
    GhengisFarb - Chinese

Ta-da! We got all our players!

    Still no one signing up???

    Well, then I will
If you are willing to drop the AI.

    Are you sugesting archipellago btw?
If so, it can take quite awhile before players find each other.... (I'm ok with, just worth mentioning i feel )

      Alva,

I think you're right about a map of small islands delaying contact among the players. I didn't think of that when I suggested it. Also, I don't mind dropping the AI.
Okay, new description of the game:
Four human players, small map ('contact friendly'), random temperature and so on (do you think the arid and cool suggestion was turning people off? I like nasty starting positions).
      A few questions:
      1) Do we all need the same version to play PBEM?
      2) If it is all human players does the difficulty level mean anthing?
      3) Ah, no, sorry, just two questions.

      Thanks, Alva, for signing up.

I would like to play a PBEM game so please count me in.

AFAIK it is advisable to all be on the same version. I have 1.14.

          1. as Cerberus said, advisable
2.It does have an effect on happiness, but there seems to be a bug in PBEM games that sets difficulty level to regent, no what what

I'm happy with the other suggestions, it will make it a different game
(if you want to go with a standard-sized map, that's fine by me too)

          Question from me
Are 'outside game' deals allowed? (IE: swapping minimaps...etc)

other: cultural starting pos = off (important)

I will upgrade to 1.14 so we won't have any problems with the game.
            CerberusIV thanks for signing up.
When we get one more player I'll start the game and start sending it around. Perhaps we should think about time zones to determine turn order? Or does it not really matter? This is my first PBEM game so I'm not sure how it will affect things. I check my e-mail several times a day so I can take my turn any time.
I don't see why we shouldn't have outside game deals. From what I've read it speeds things up a lot whereas making deals through the game can take several turns for the simplest of transactions. How would I send you my minimap, by the way?
I will turn off culturally linked starting positions. Why is that important?
A couple of questions. Do you have any preference as to what civilisation you want to play as? Also, any preference for barbarian activitity?

Starting line-ups, are best done backwards.
So you first, then europe, then the US.
(the difference between cerberus and me is insignificant)

I'm ok with making everything random
(if someelse wants to choose his civ, I would like to do so to. )

btw, a good thing to do is to put all the info into your first post(edit), for future reference and possible new players

I will go with random everything. If there is a choice of civs I would like to play Ottomans.

Hmmm, other PBEM games seem to fill up rather quickly. Is the short break in January that's keeping people away?

                        All hail GhengisFarb!

Great, now we can get the game moving. What should be the turn order? I'm in Asia, I think Alva and CerberusIV are in England or Europe but I don't know where GhengisFarb is.
Please send me your e-mail addresses and I'll start the game.
Alva, did you decide which civilisation you'd like to be?

Never mind about where GhengisFarb is. I just saw the flag next to his rank.

Sent my email via PM. Why does Hanam Village sound familiar? Where is it in the ROK?

Isn't there somewhere in Vietnam that sounds similar to Hanam? Anyway, Hanam is a village in Inje County, Gangwon Province. The only reason people might know it is because it is next to the Naerincheon river which is famous for rafting.
Are you familiar with Korea? Ever been here?
