  • Need Permanent Replacements for Several PBEMs

Civ III no longer functions on my computer.

I have uninstalled Civ2, PTW, Conquests, and all Patches and it will NOT resinstall. I guess its been patched and bandaided to the point that it is DOA.

Anyway, since I can't play the game anymore that means I can't play the PBEMs I am in anymore and need replacements for all of those.

Here is a list of the PBEMs I am in:
    *PTW:
    PBEM On Pre-Made Map
    Create-A-Civ PBEM
    Living Large PBEM
    Naval PBEM
    Double Trouble PBEM
    As U Like It PBEM

    *Conquests:
    Goldenless Wonders PBEM
    Balderdash PBEM
Age of Discovery PBEM Take 3
Silent PBEM - Youth in Asia
    Strictly Conquests PBEM
    Age of Discovery PBEM
    Napoleonic Conquest PBEM
    Medieval Ages PBEM

Something is wrong with Firaxis' install program (suprise there ) and I ahve tried for 5 hours and no progress has been made to get the game reinstalled.

Not sure why it wouldn't reinstall. Only 5hrs?

    We need you GF!

Try to remove all references to Civ3 in your registry if you haven't already. How about some details on what works and doesn't?

It freezes at about 6% complete and states that a sound file on the install cd is write-protected.

It says it can't access the files on the install CD.

I had to reinstall and the original is back in Oklahoma so I had to buy a new copy. Tried on another computer and it appears to be the cd.

I thought you were in more games than that.

If it is the CD, can you get it exchanged or replaced? Even if that means stalling some games for a few days or finding a temporary replacement.

C'mon some of those games are just getting interesting.

In fact he is. He at least seems to have forgoten about the tournament game.

Have you stopped to think about what this means GF? You're a pillar of the PBEM community and will be sorely missed...

GF is very resourceful. He will find a way to make it work.

Before you reformat, try creating a partition and install your OS of choice on it; then try to install the game on that partition. That may tell you if you OS is the proble or the CD. You may also want to try installing the game on a friends system, to see if the CD is whacked.

I don't think the new OS will solve the problem...

Is Rasputin really the replacement? Or we will wait some days until the problem is solved?

I thought that one was dead, I hadn't seen it in several weeks.

Anyway, I may have a lead on a Civ3 cd.

I have my original PTW and Conquests cds but their useless without the old Civ3 cd.

I played the Tournament game yesterday after a mix up GF.

Good luck trying to get this to work!

You are a MAJOR pain in the arse but Ill miss you if you dont return.

Can someone ship you the vanilla Civ disk?

If not send me your adress, I have three and would be happy to ship you one of my extra copies.

(And yes I will keep your adress confidential)
