  • Newbie PBEM

I'm looking to start a PBEM game (my first) to progress at a casual pace. 1-2 turns/day, tops; possibly no play on weekends. I can beat Regent handilly, but haven't finished a full Monarch game, although the one I'm on now looks like it should end in a win. I did play AU102 which was at Emporer and won by Diplomatic victory (felt like a cop-out).

If anyone around my level of play is interested, please let me know. Thanks.

That is just my situation, burly. I feel confident on winning my Monarch game, but still who knows?
I am currently playing several PBEMs, but almost everyone is still on the beginning of the BC era, so I can't tell if I am doing well or not. (Well, in the most advanced one I'm being wiped out, but I took that game as a replacement player... it doesn't count! )

    Could I join the game?

SURE!!! I'm only letting myself play at work on my lunch hour and for 1 hour max after work, since I need to write my thesis at home and on weekends (minus a little web browsing ). Since I've not done this before, what's a good number of players? What size map? Do we want AI?

Perhaps we could find a time when we could both play and get the first several turns done in one sitting (since they usually go quickly with only 1 city).

Any ideas you have about the game set-up?

        Great!
The number of player depends mainly on the game duration, speed and fun desired. The most people in, the slower the game but more interest, and viceversa.
The most usual is 6 players. I have not seen a less-than-4 game yet, but this could be the first
Map size depends on the number of players, but people normally prefers to play on reduced worlds, to help making the game more active. Standard is good for 6 players, small for 4. Maybe tiny for less.
About the AI's, they are usually discarded. I think that when people jump on human vs human games, the AI looses its attractive as opponent.

It would be great to be able to play at the same "time", but due to local-time difference, this could be difficult. And depends, too, on how many players we get.

EDIT: to help making calculations, this has been posted at 22:02 local time, and I go to bed no later than 00:00 on work days.

So you're at GMT +1, I'm in the Eastern US and am at GMT -5. You're right about it possibly being difficult to find an opportunity for a common session. Let's see if we get any more interest in the next few days. Perhaps we should see if anyone would be willing to set up a map so that no one is stuck with a terrible start location?

I'd like to try at least 4 players.

Are you okay with the slower pace?

No objections on my side, I am not in a hurry
About the setup, I believe that since the last patch v1.21 it is not possible for non-players to create the game as before.

This thread disappeared! Anybody know why that might have happened? I had to go through the "my threads" link in the page header to get to the thread. Once I posted the bump post, it showed up again. Weird!!

Found out why it disappeared. Apparently, forums with topped threads cause the posts to not be visible between pages. Well, nothing a good bump can't fix!

Zord, you out there? Not alot of interest at this level apparently. We could play 1v1, or we could just roll this into the game that kermit is starting.

                    Here:

I think we better try on the game of kermit, and if for any reason it doesn't go, then we could try a 1-1.
I have already signed up, too.

Hey Zord! Would you be up for a 1v1 PBEM on a tiny map? Let me know if you're interested.

Anyone else interested in a 1v1?

                          Already tired of waiting?
Well why not? I'll try the greeks.

                            Great!!
I'll get the game set up and send it over your way. I'll do 2 versions and we can decide which we like better as far as start positions go.

I think I'm going to try Carthage. I've never played them before, but a Greece/Carthage battle sounds fun!
