  • Found HUGE BUG in 1.21f

I have unwittingly found a HUGE bug in 1.21f (US version)

In one of my PBEMs, I had received the wrong save game. Assuming it was the correct one, I loaded the save from the main menu in the usual manner but when the game loaded, I was able to see the map of the person before me.

Note, THIS HAPPENED BY LOADING FROM THE MAIN MENU, in a save which was not mine.

This is a bug with potentialy disastrous consequences as it means we must be very careful on sendin the correct save to the next player, or that person will trigger the bug with no fault of his own.

I wonder if anyone else has encountered this bug, or if anyone else is willing to test it. Anyway, the person affected in my PBEM has been notified of it and fortunately it was in a game which was only about 3 turns old.

I think I have found out how this bug works...

Basically, when you start a PBEM, the password screen centers you on the start position of the previous player. If the map is uncovered, you don't see his land. However, the game always assumes you are the correct player and will show you the map if it is within view of the last players' start.

Funny but after about 6 months of PBEMing I never had this problem in 1.14 even though I had been sent the wrong save more than once.

Happened in 1.14 too AFAIK. Still a shame it's still there though.
Perhaps shamefull is a better word.

But the map you see is the same map you would've seen from within the game, no? With the fog of war and everything.

If you have the wrong save then it's not your fog of war.

Having a different password should prevent you from accidentally finding out things from this happening but it doesn't.
