The Ferenghi are the sneaky little merchant guys with big ears and vampire teeth. Eli sneak-attacked me. After some loss I drove him back and was poised to inflict great harm on his civ. He made a peace proposal that I accepted (for various reasons). I withdrew from the strategic positions in his territory and he advanced against an important city of mine!

When queried about it he said it was a ferenghi idea to unilaterally declare peace during a war in order to confuse your enemies. Needless to say I never accepted another peace proposal from Eli so our war lasted from about 540AD to 1640AD when the game crashed.
