On next study: up to you really; I 've locked myself in on alphabet, which is the first step toward Philo. I definitely think we should be going for Philo, but what we should try to get with it, I'm not sure. If we're going to play it safe and go for Construction, you might want to start on Iron Working - though a detour to a defense tech first, like The Wheel or Warrior Code, wouldn't cost too much.

One possibility would be to go for Construction now, and Republic we could probably get later for cheap if one of us researches it at close to 0 science (taking 50 turns with it, as you get a tech automatically if you put science into it for 50 turns). The gold generated by that person can fund higher science spending by the other, or can just be stored, etc. All sorts of ways to game the system when there are two of us.

Tech slider: Again up to you. I'd advise setting it relatively high, as there's usually not much point in stockpiling gold at this point in the game. There can be advantages to a small stockpile though, since you can start running it down as soon as there's something (buildings or units) to cost you maintenance.

I think I'll go for the Wheel first then Iron Working. Look for the turn tonight.

                Popped a hut, got barbs

I should be fine, I just produced my second Enkidu. That one won't be able to go out exploring as soon as I hoped though...

Golden Shores expanded d/t culture. I see cows. Do you recommend roading then irrigate or mining the cows?

The mighty con continues to wander and has found dyes to the NW.

You know your situation best and whether you might need the shield from the mine...

In general, food is harder to get under despotism, and food (growth)
is generally the bottleneck to producing more settlers & workers - unless you get surplus food, it takes 20 turns to generate 2 pop points for a settler, 30 shields can usually be gotten in at most 10 turns - so irrigation is often preferable. Again, though, depends on what you need.

I am sorry. It looks like I got the save last week just as I dropped off line. I have great excuses that involve surgeries, ER visits, and such. But enough excuses - on with the game. So, I will play tonight unless of course a flesh eating bacteria sets in which seems to be the only thing that has not gone wrong so far.
